A Woman's Right to Everything She Wants

The Pan Pacific San Francisco Responds to Demands of the Ever-Discerning Female Traveler

Pan Pacific San FranciscoThe Pan Pacific San Francisco recently conducted a comprehensive survey of female guests and a focus group with several travel industry leaders and discovered the hotel is indeed offering many of the services, accommodations and amenities this highly discerning market segment expects from their homes away from home. However, in order to accommodate better the hotel's female guests, The Pan Pacific has made several enhancements as a result of the survey and focus group suggestions.

The only item on the survey to earn a perfect score was an in-room blow dryer. As a result, The Pan Pacific has acquired an inventory of diffusers, those funny add-ons that redirect the dryers' heat so that hair doesn't get "frizzy" in the process of primping.

Since The Pan Pacific already provides in-room fax machines in all guestrooms, they decided to upgrade the units with copy capabilities. The hotel has also added a reserve of lap top computers available for guests' use. And, due to the growing demand and expectations for high speed Internet access, all guestrooms will soon be wired with the latest technology. And, the already existing three phone lines make it convenient for guests to log on, fax, and retrieve voicemail all at once…a sure sign of 21st century efficiency.

Although the aforementioned "hardware" items all scored high on the survey, some of the softer touches were just as important. One guest, so enamored with the concept of a private butler, was happy to discover that her request to find a two-day-old newspaper (which had been relegated to the recycling bin) is par for the course at The Pan Pacific. Although female guests were already impressed with the luxury of a personal butler, the hotel felt it important to redefine and further refine the service by incorporating technology assistance as well. This enhancement was also a recommendation from the survey and focus group. Additional developments made as a result of the survey and focus group include:

  • staff available to escort female guests to their room
  • female staff available to deliver room service
  • room service menu with lighter menu choices
  • minibars stocked with wines by the glass
  • additional toiletries available through guest room services
  • massage therapy arranged in room and spa treatments available at nearby day spa
  • each staff member empowered to "do what it takes" to please guest
  • concierge staff trained in: recommending safe dining options for single women travelers and suggesting proper attire for excursions and entertainment venues
  • expansion in number of non-smoking rooms
