Buca di Beppo Restaurant "Immigrates" to Frisco, Texas
by Madelyn Miller
Wish you knew a real Italian? Someone who cooked just like they did in the old country? Well, let me tell you about Buca di Beppo, an immigrant Southern Italian restaurant.
Buca di Beppo now has a location in Frisco, Texas. The second Buca di Beppo in North Texas, the Frisco restaurant is located at adjacent to the Stonebriar Centre on State Highway 121.
Buca di Beppo serves the family recipes of head chef and Calabrian native Vittorio Renda in enormous portions that overflow the family platters. Among the restaurant's signature dishes are chicken cacciatore, linguini with clam sauce, grand Neapolitan pizzas and a spaghetti and meatballs dish that is a feast unto itself. The San Jose Mercury News has described the food as "vital, vibrant, and powerfully flavored."
The restaurant also features a boisterous, unpretentious atmosphere evoking the Italian-American supper clubs of the 1940s and 1950s. From vintage family photos and mementos of Italian icons such as Sophia Loren and Joe DiMaggio, to the strains of Dean Martin and "Funiculi, Funicula," to the circular "Pope's Table" capable of accommodating 14 -18 adults in Sistine splendor, Buca di Beppo brings the passion and flavor of Little Italy to the neighborhood.
"'Buca' means basement," said Buca di Beppo chairman, president and CEO Joe Micatrotto, "and our Frisco restaurant is the newest version of the first 'Buca' I ever experienced-the one my grandfather ran in the basement of our apartment building in Cleveland's Little Italy."
The Frisco restaurant is open seven days a week, for dinner only, except on Sundays. Hours are: Monday-Thursday, 5-10 pm; Friday, 5-11 pm; Saturday, 4-11 pm; Sunday, 12-9 pm. Reservations are welcome, and major credit cards are accepted. For reservations, call 972-668-EATS (3287).
Recognized by Bon Appetit magazine as one of America's "Best New Restaurants," Buca di Beppo has won a host of additional awards including "Hot Concepts!" from Nation's Restaurant News and numerous "Best Of" designations in cities across the country.
Go hungry. Bring a big appetite and lots of friends so you can try several dishes. Be sure to order the pizza. And don't be embarrassed to take home
the leftovers.
