Aruba Jazz and Latin Festival

The passion of jazz and Latin music returns to Aruba on June 29th - 30th, 2001 for the 2001 Aruba Jazz and Latin Festival featuring some of the most distinguished performers in the industry.

The performers scheduled to appear are Nestor Torres, Chucho Valdez, Biela D'Costa, Caribbean Jazz Project, Delbert Bernabela and Eddie Samson.  The festival has been a major stop for world-renowned artists such as Celia Cruz, Carlos Santana, Spyro Gyra, Kenny G and the late Tito Puente.

Performing on Friday, June 29, is Chucho Valdez, a Cuban pianist and composer who co-founded the legendary Orquesta de Musica Moderna and has performed with jazz legends Paquito Rivera and Arturo Sandoval.  Biella D'Costa, one of Venezuela's most acclaimed bilingual vocalists and Delbert Bernabela, a local saxophonist and flutist will also be performing on Friday.

On Saturday, June 30th, Latin Grammy nominated flutist Nestor Torres will take the stage with his tantalizing smooth Latin jazz that captures the best of Latin, popular, jazz, and classical traditions.   Also performing on Saturday is local artist Eddie Samson and Caribbean Jazz Project, a historic musical event combining the all-star talents of Cuban saxophone and clarinet great Paquito D'Rivera, steel pan legend Andy Narell, and vibes/marimba master Dave Samuels.

This year's festival will be the first concert held at the new state of the art amphitheatre Centro di Bario Piedra Plat.  Tickets are $30 per night per person or $46 including transportation.

Aruba is a vacationer's paradise located in the heart of the Caribbean, 15 miles north of Venezuela and only two and a half hours by air from Miami.  Ideally located outside the hurricane belt, Aruba boasts great weather, cooling trade winds and friendly people.  For more information on planning a trip to Aruba, contact the Aruba Tourism Authority at 1-800-TO-ARUBA.
