The Only Hollywood Legend That Will Admit to a Facelift
The Refurbished Millennium Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles
A downtown landmark since its completion in the early 1920s and the "star" of numerous movies and TV shows filmed at the property, the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, Los Angeles has long been the "host of the coast" for high society, celebrities and conventioneers from around the globe. One of several remarkable venues in the property, the famed Biltmore Bowl will soon reopen after a $3 million renovation and enhancement program, planned to prepare this grand ballroom for another century of memorable events.
Scheduled for completion in late 2001, the Biltmore Bowl project is the centerpiece of a major, hotel-wide renovation program, which has sought to maintain the period detail and architectural integrity of the building, while bringing facilities to state-of the-art. The Biltmore Bowl has been redesigned to appeal to a wide range of groups, including the performers and music executives who celebrate the successes of their industry there each year at the Grammy Awards after-party.
At nearly 14,000 square feet in size, the Biltmore Bowl represents a substantial portion of the hotel's approximately 70,000 square feet of function space, which also includes the Crystal Ballroom, the site of several early Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences banquets; Regency Room, a hall capable of accommodating exhibit booths; Millennium Boardroom, an elegant, high-tech business suite with a billiards room; Gold Room and Emerald Room ballrooms; and Rendezvous Court, a cathedral-style lounge area. Nine executive conference rooms can accommodate between 20 and 90 people.
The new focus of the Biltmore Bowl is to achieve an efficient use of space while providing premiere features and services. Planned to appeal to social as well as corporate clientele looking for a beautiful yet functional venue, the Biltmore Bowl will feature ample pre-function space that flows into the main seating area. In order to accommodate the need for privacy, planners will have the option of closing off the seating area, currently in the process of being converted from a three-tiered layout to make the room more versatile.
An advanced sound system will boast more than 75 speakers, and automated roll-down screens, video & computer projection components and programmable lighting controls will be routed into a professional control room. Multiple hang points will create the ability to add theatrical lighting to the existing lighting system. The space will be elegantly appointed with gold leaf ceilings, wood columns, and a rich color scheme of burgundy and gold. Designers are diligently restoring the graceful, stylish elements of the Biltmore Bowl as they existed when the hotel first opened.

CAR RENTAL
You will need a car in Los Angeles. I rented one from Budget Rent A Car of Beverly Hills. I chose a PT Cruiser, a vintage-looking car by Chrysler that seemed to fit my mission. After all, I love bargains, but I have style. I almost picked a convertible to get a tan while I got my bargains, but liked the roomy trunk on the PT Cruiser. They also have Jaguars, Mercedes, and Ferraris but I decided to rent one of those when I do a story about how to
hobnob with the rich and famous of Los Angeles.
