Madison, A New Star on the Bangkok Culinary SceneA new sense of class; a new style; a new cuisineby Madelyn MillerThe Regent Bangkok has opened Madison, a modern and stylish Manhattan-style grill, setting new standards in design, decor and dining in the Thai capital, a city already famous for its fine restaurants. Designed and created under the masterful hand of the famous New York-based architect and designer, Mr. Tony Chi, Madison draws on all his experience the world over, to present an elegant, but modern—and totally unique—dining experience.
Located in The Regent Bangkok's recently transformed and immensely popular Parichart Garden courtyard and adjacent to the newly completed and completely casual Aqua Bar, Madison is ideally situated for that elegant dinner or power luncheon. With its modern open style, yet club-like warmth and open fireplace in the bar area and sophisticated ambience throughout, it nicely complements The Regent Bangkok's other award-winning restaurants, Biscotti, Shintaro and the celebrated Spice Market. "We are incredibly excited by the opening of Madison," The Regent Bangkok's General Manager, Mr. Guy Rigby said today. "It will provide an entirely new dining experience in Bangkok, for both visitors and local clientele alike. "With its typical, modern Tony Chi design, it is perhaps reminiscent of some of the most fashionable new restaurants in Manhattan and will feature prime US and Australian beef, an open kitchen and char grill, and a private dining room for intimate functions," he said.
"Its elegant bar, with its stylish wing-backed leather chairs and open fire place, will feature the largest single malt whisky selection in Thailand, while the restaurant itself will have an extensive and moderately priced wine list. "A unique feature of the bar is the oversized ice cubes, produced from a Japanese machine especially provided for the purpose. Not only does this add to the presentation but it also prevents an iced drink from becoming watered down too quickly. "With the opening of Madison, The Regent Bangkok's culinary journey now extends over three continents (Asia, Europe and America) and four countries, each with their distinctive cuisine, all done to suit modern dining tastes," he said. The Madison menu is an attractive one, offering a range of appetizers from oysters and mussels to the traditional Caesar Salad, as well as a selection from the salad table. There is also a range of soups, including a special seafood gumbo.
Main courses are attractively priced and include grain-fed prime US and Australian beef, Australian lamb and veal, chicken and a wide selection of seafood, including lobster, salmon and tiger prawn dishes. The US beef is aged for 28 days and imported from Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin, while the Angus grain-fed beef is from Western Australia. There is also a menu of especially created dishes suitable for sharing food with friends and a "Business Deal" luncheon, as well as an ample selection of side dishes to cater to any discerning diner's taste. To finish, there is a comprehensive range of desserts, or a choice of cheeses. Madison offers an attractive and extensive wine list, reasonably priced, as well as some memorable dessert wines, Cognac and Armagnac. For pre-dinner drinks, Madison diners can gather in the cosy bar with its comfortable wing-back chairs, sophisticated club-like atmosphere and open fireplace. Of special note and adjoining and complementing Madison in the Parichart Garden is the new Aqua outdoor bar, again designed by Mr. Chi, and featuring a range of draught beers and Bangkok's best Martinis. Madison also features a Private Dining Room, with seating for 16 persons, for that private business lunch or that special celebration; three semi-private dining booths for up to four people and an open flame kitchen with its refrigerated crustacean bar. Describing the ambience of his new creation, the designer, Mr. Tony Chi, said the aim was to produce an ambience both elegant and modern with a club lounge atmosphere, which would take full advantage of its location in the Parichart Garden.
The design delivers a clean, straightforwardly modern and uncomplicated style, that is elegant without being formal and comfortable without being overly casual. As a vital design feature, the open kitchen can be seen from all areas. To maximize the view to the kitchen, free-standing glass panels serve as partitions as well as separation. In the main restaurant area and bar, Madison brings together a gentle and warm palette of colors, with walnut plank flooring, custom carpet in taupe shades, a white terrazzo floor border with brown coconut inlay and ebony and walnut millwork to contrast with the white painted walls and the teakwood and piano white ceiling.
