Food and Fun Festival 2002

Food from Grillid in Hotel SagaIceland Naturally, a group of Icelandic seafood, agriculture, water and tourism leaders, invites you to attend the Iceland Naturally Food & Fun Festival 2002 in Reykjavik and Kopavogur, Iceland, February 27 to March 3, 2002.

This fun and exciting Festival includes a cooking competition of Icelandic Products from a “Mystery Basket” for internationally acclaimed chefs from many of  the best restaurants throughout Europe and the United States. All chefs will compete using Icelandic raw materials, known worldwide for their uniquely Natural and delicious qualities.

The Cooking Competition will take place on Saturday, March 02 and Sunday March 03, starting at noon each day, at the new Smáralind in Kópavogur, Iceland.  Smáralind is only a short 10 minute drive from Reykjavik´s city center.

Food from Grillid in Hotel SagaSeveral restaurants in Reykjavik have been selected to present a special Festival Menu designed by the participating chefs, who will demonstrate their culinary skills just for you. These festival menus will be presented from Wednesday, Feb. 27th, Through Saturday, Mar. 02, 2002.

David Rosengarten, noted culinary critic, cookbook author and NBC-TV chef, will head a distinguished panel of judges who will select the “Iceland Naturally Chef of the Year 2002” and oversee the demonstrations. Icelandic TV chef Siggi Hall, whose restaurant in Reykjavik was voted as one of the world’s best by Condé Nast Traveler magazine, will run the competition.

The fun doesn’t stop with the food – there’s also Reykjavik’s fabulous and much touted nightlife. Icelandic superstars Björk and SigurRós are just two of the exciting entertainers launched in this trendy European capital, where new groups appear every month! 

“Beer Day” is scheduled for March 1, and there’s time to enjoy Iceland’s spectacular scenery, with pony trekking across ancient lava fields, snowmobiling on a glacier, relaxing in the exotic Blue Lagoon, or simply socializing with the Icelandic people. There’s nothing like a breath of fresh air in this North Atlantic Wonderland.

The Festival will conclude with a Gala Dinner on March 3 when the Cooking Competition winner will be announced and the “Iceland Naturally Chef of the Year 2002” will be introduced. The specially featured GALA dinner will be prepared by a selection of top Icelandic Chefs, each representing a participating restaurant.
