Tune In! Listen Up! Sing Along! Chicago Celebrates

Music Everywhere This Summer

From musical chairs and sing-a-longs to classical concerts and lakefront festivals, Chicagoans and visitors alike will discover music throughout the city this summer.  This summer Music Everywhere, a program of the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Chicago Office of Tourism will showcase new and perennial music events from May 30 through September 29.

“Similar to Cows on Parade and Suite Home Chicago, Music Everywhere will amuse and engage both visitors and Chicagoans.  You will find music in public spaces such as plazas and parks as well as in hotels, restaurants and retail locations,” said Lois Weisberg, Chicago Cultural Affairs Commissioner.

Music Everywhere will also feature value-added incentives and special hotel rates.  Visitors who prefer to reserve a pre-planned itinerary prior to arriving in Chicago can take advantage of the Music Everywhere Immersion Weekends.  Each Immersion Weekend package includes a two-night stay in a first class downtown hotel, along with tickets to some of the hottest events in the city and access to special receptions hosted by leading music experts.

Beginning in May, reservations for the discounted hotel rooms and the Immersion Weekends as well as more information on Music Everywhere will be available on www.877CHICAGO.com or by calling toll free, 1.877.CHICAGO (1.877.244.2246). For those calling outside the United States, Mexico and Canada, please call 1.312.201.8847.  The TTY toll-free number for the hearing impaired is 1.866.710.0294.

Visitors to Chicago and Chicagoans planning to entertain out-of-town guests can also receive helpful information, including maps and brochures on Chicago’s exciting events and attractions, by stopping at one of the city’s official Visitor Information Centers.  They are located at the Chicago Water Works, 163 East Pearson Street at Michigan Avenue, the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 East Randolph Street and the Sears kiosk located inside the Sears on State.  Chicago tourism information is also available on the Internet at www.cityofchicago.org/tourism

The Hotel Monaco Chicago is participating in the "Music Everywhere" program by offering a special rate for its "WXRT Party Like A Rock Star" suite.

This suite is an interactive rock ‘n’ roll shrine, immersing guests in a unique world of music. Upon entering the two-room suite, one’s eyes
immediately spot the archetypal rock star hotel room prop a 19-inch television set that appears to be “thrown” through the window in true rock
star rebel form (courtesy of the Steppenwolf Theatre prop shop). The sitting room features a regal red velvet couch; dramatic zebra-striped carpeting, a display of eight gold records by the Smashing Pumpkins, Bare
Naked Ladies, and others; and a fully-loaded TouchTunes jukebox, the world’s first digital jukebox that stores songs on a computer hard drive instead of compact discs or vinyl.

Just stumbling steps away is the bedroom, complete with a Sony 52-disc CD player (with discs); a Danelctro electric guitar and amplifier from Guitar Center to create your own jam session; 12 pieces of original Chicago concert photographs by noted rock ‘n’ roll photographer Paul Natkin; framed and autographed handwritten lyrics to John Lennon’s songs Imagine and Day Tripper and a custom Chicago rock collage by artist Russell Thurston illustrating Chicago music icons and events. The luxurious bathroom
features a two-person sunken Jacuzzi tub.

The special "Music Everywhere -- Summer in Chicago 2002" program rate for accommodations is $259 per night on weekdays and $239 per night on weekends. These rates are available June 16 through Sept. 1, 2002. Reservations may be made by calling (312) 960-8553.
