New Summer
Schedule for
Long-Haul
Destinations to Germany
Non-stop connections to Boston, San Francisco, New
York (JFK) Chicago, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta and Toronto.
The worldwide slump in air traffic,
which also strongly impacted passenger figures at Munich Airport over the
last several months, is apparently over. An upward trend in traffic figures
at Munich Airport is already in evidence as the new summer timetable period
approaches.
Deutsche Lufthansa has added
appealing new, long-haul connections in time for the upcoming summer
schedule. May 1 will mark the launch of the non-stop service to Boston (six
flights each per week). The airline is also resumed its daily non-stop
flights to San Francisco and to New York-JFK, which were suspended following
the September 11 terrorist attacks. Non-stop daily service to Chicago
remained unchanged, bringing the total number of U.S. cities with daily
non-stop connections serviced by Lufthansa to four.
U.S. Airways reinstated non-stop
daily service to Philadelphia, after the schedule was reduced following
September 11. United Airlines continues non-stop daily service to
Washington, D.C. and Delta Airlines continues non-stop daily service to
Atlanta. From April 8-June 2, Air Canada will re-launch its non-stop
Toronto connection (5 times weekly), and will move to daily non-stop service
June 3.
In total, the 2002 summer schedule
includes 55 weekly non-stop connections from North America to the Munich
International Airport. So far, airlines have scheduled nearly 213,000
take-offs and landings in Munich for the period between March 31 and October
26, 2002. This represents an average of 7,100 flights per week, or a jump of
approximately 100 flights over the previous year's level. Based on slots
booked so far, the 2002 summer schedule will have 92 airlines providing
scheduled services to 209 destinations in 59 countries from Munich
International Airport, the Modern Gateway to Romantic Europe.
