Modern Women Find Adventure

Traveling by Orca Raft at Kona, Hawaii

Women have joined the ranks of world explorers, discovering exotic places for themselves and returning with fantastical stories of new sounds, sights, tastes, smells and experiences to the envy of many. Join in this trend and escape to Hawaii¹s Big Island and discover ocean magic aboard the Orca Raft Adventure.

The Orca Raft takes a small group of travelers numbering up to 14 on a series of adventures all in one journey. Begin with a ride across the open ocean and feel the freedom of wind coursing through your hair and massaging your face while reaching speeds of up to 25 mph. The vantage of the Orca raft right above the water provides exciting encounters with sudden appearances of flying fish, playful pods of spinner dolphins and during the right season, passing humpback whales.

The adventure continues when the 28-foot durable raft enters the secluded marine sanctuary of Kealakekua Bay. The calm waters and protected bay make it the perfect place to experience the magic of Hawaii¹s underwater world. Dive into the crystal clear waters, often with an underwater visibility of up to 100 feet and experience intimate encounters with marine life of all shapes, color, and size.

Every care in the world disappears into the depths of the aquamarine waters as you swim along schools of tropical fish, graceful sea turtles, free-swimming eels and spinning dolphins. All too soon, the call is sent to return to the raft and begin the final adventure, a personalized tour of Kona¹s remote coast.

The tour begins with a peak into the history and cultural significance of Kealakekua Bay and the glistening white Captain Cook monument. It is believed that one of the ancient Hawaiian gods, Lono-i-ka-makahiki, resides in this special place, lending to the bay¹s name, kealakekua, which in Hawaiian means "pathway of the god."  Imagine encountering thousands of Hawaii¹s ancient warriors as Captain Cook did on his first journey to this beautiful bay. Here, the spirit of these gracious and powerful people lives on.

Discover remote locations along the Kona shore including an outlet of three lava tubes that eerily form a face of piercing eyes and a gaping mouth. Ancient Hawaiian¹s believed the "face" to represent their war god, Kukailimoku and would light torches in its cave "eyes" to scare away their enemies. Leave each place for a new appreciation of Kona¹s unique natural and cultural history.

The Orca Raft Adventure is owned and operated by Kona¹s Dant family. The Dants have conducted snorkeling cruises to Kealakekua Bay aboard the Fair Wind for more than 30 years.  For more information or to make a reservation contact the Fair Wind office toll free at (800) 677-9461, directly at (808) 322-2788 or visit the website at www.fair-wind.com.
