The Art and Soul of Santa Fe

Inn at Loretto Announces
New Summer Art Programs Featuring Renowned Artists

By Madelyn Miller

Is your secret fantasy to be a Santa Fe artist? Now you can get a little closer to making that a reality.

Inn at Loretto, located in the heart of Santa Fe, has a new summer art program beginning this May through August.

Columbine Gallery and Three Ravens Fine Art, both located in the hotel, offer an impressive list of artists to share their talents and insights into the fascinating art culture of Santa Fe, including art demonstrations, lectures and personal interaction between renowned artists and guests and locals this summer.

Join Inn at Loretto’s resident artist, Denny Haskew, specializing in sculptures reflective of realistic figurative pieces, for an Inspiration of the Arts, which features sculpting and painting demonstrations, poetry readings, and champagne inside the hotel’s new Artist’s Studio suite, located in room 217. The Artist’s Studio suite was transformed into a “working” art studio, and features an artist table and stool in place of a regular desk and chair, and comes complete with art supplies from Artisans, the famous art supply store that Georgia O’Keefe once purchased her supplies from. The suite also has sketch books and pencils on the living room coffee table for guests to utilize during their visit, along with a White Deer of Autumn statue on the balcony, and other sculptures displayed in a beautiful armoire. The Artist’s Studio suite is available for guests to stay in when not being used for special programs. The Inspiration of the Arts is held on May 24 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., May 25 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., June 8 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., August 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and August 16 from 10 a.m. to noon. Columbine Gallery also features a dual presentation by artists Sybil Stork, water color technique demonstration, and Rosetta, discussions of her sculptures, June 21 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the gallery at the hotel. Additional Inspiration of the Arts sessions will be held in July, call the Columbine Gallery directly for more information, or to register, at (505) 988.1111. Complimentary to hotel guests and $35 for non-guests.

Three Ravens Fine Art, owned by Gregg and Christine Albracht, specializes in a fine collection of photographic works and sculptures. Gregg Albracht, a prolific photographer with a longtime presence in New Mexico, uses the technique, etching on light, that washes each composition in pure white light, then etches shadows onto the piece, while wife, Christine Albracht, specializes in the hand coloring of photographs. This summer, Three Ravens Fine Art presents Terry Shoulders, a Taos photographer specializing in photographic landscapes saturated with weather and its vestiges, June 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Duke Sundt, a Western bronze sculptor whose work combines traditional excellence with a uniquely creative dimension, June 29 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., July 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., July 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., August 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Greg and Christine Albrecht, etching on light, July 5 and August 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Erika Eckerstrand, a Swedish potter featuring clay baskets whose work evokes the spirit of Native American art and the excellence of Scandinavian design, July 12 and August 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. All demonstrations take place at Three Ravens Fine Art and are complimentary to hotel guests. Call Three Ravens Fine Art directly for more information, or to register, at 505.989.7077.

The hotel features special art programs throughout the weekend that tie into the Native American art theme, including a dual collaboration with Denny Haskew and Juan de la Cruz Machicado in an interactive art class in the Artist’s Studio suite, room #217, on August 16 from 10 a.m. to noon.
