Maui Writers Conference

Lucky You Live in Hawaii…you get Kama’aina Discounts!

Hawaii Residents Save $100.00 on The World’s Best Writer's Conference to be held at the Outrigger Wailea over Labor Day Weekend.

Isn’t it time you attended the 'Best Writers Conference in the World' (according to Writers Digest magazine) right in your own backyard? This year the Maui Writers Conference wants to be sure that Hawaii writers have every opportunity to attend the event that has launched the careers of so many writers. So, they are offering a Kama’aina Rate for Hawaii residents only.

The MWC Kama’aina Rate of $595 is the lowest price possible price for pre-registrations this close to the event. (The current registration rate is $695. Not a Kama’aina? Go to the website at www.mauiwriters.com  or call (808) 879-0061 or 1-888-writer3 toll-free for info on the ‘Friends of the Conference’ discount that is $50.00 off the current rate.)  Check this rate out soon. There will be NO discounts for attendees that sign-up ‘at the door’ and discounts cannot be combined.

The Maui Writers Conference is held at the lovely Outrigger Wailea Resort in Wailea, Maui over Labor Day Weekend—August 29-September 2. An extra day has been added this year. At this Agent’s Day on Thursday, attendees will get advice from literary agents on how to get the most from the conference.

The conference is a motivational and instructional event featuring an impressive list of best selling writers and screenwriters. Presenters include John Saul (thirty N.Y. Times bestsellers), Dorothy Allison (Bastard Out of Carolina), Bryce Courtenay (The Power of One), Billie Letts (Where The Heart Is), Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup…), Steve Martini (The Jury), Elizabeth George (A Traitor to Memory), Terry Ryan (The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio), Thomas Sawyer (writer/producer of Murder She Wrote), Paul Levine (First Monday) and many more.  This year there will be a new ‘Travel Writing’ track featuring Mario Mercado (Travel & Leisure), Madelyn Miller (Travel Lady) and Dewitt Jones (National Geographic).

The five-day conference includes a full schedule of workshops, panel presentations, keynote presentations…and still leaves time for valuable networking. Attendees can also sign-up for optional professional consultations with agents, editors and publishers.
Residents are encouraged to enjoy the non-stop fun of the conference by staying in Wailea. Attractive ‘Conference Attendee’ room rates apply at the Outrigger Wailea (call 879-1922), Maui Condo & Homes (call 879-5445) and the Grand Wailea for all attendees.

The Maui Writers Retreat will be held from August 23-28. The retreat classes are intensive with hands-on instruction from major authors. The goal is to develop the students’ existing manuscript so it is marketable. The faculty includes John Saul, Dorothy Allison, Terry Brooks, Bryce Courteney, Billie Letts and local author Deborah Iida (Middle Son).  Students must be selected based on a writing sample.   The Hawaii Resident Advance Sign-Up Rate for the retreat is $875 if received prior to June 1, 2002.

Go to the Maui Writers Conference website— www.mauiwriters.com —for complete registration information including ‘quick and easy’ on-line registration. Hawaii residents may use the $595 conference rate and/or the $895 retreat rate.  For a brochure, call (808) 879-0061 immediately.

“We are compiling a list of past attendees who are now published authors thanks to attending the Maui Writers Conference. Over 100 writers made connections and found agents who helped them get a book deal after the event… or they secured book deals right at the conference. I know I did,” says MWC Publicist Barbara Santos.  One author who will be telling her story at the conference this year is Tess Uriza Holthe. She secured a $350,000 advance for her book, When The Elephants Dance, two years ago. “Aspiring writers simply must attend this conference. How often do you get to talk with New York publishers or interview literary agents to find the best one for you—right in your own backyard?!”
