Chocolate is Not Just for Children

Umlaut Introduces “Chocolaut” Menu

By Madelyn Miller

Umlaut, downtown Dallas’ chic underground lounge is introducing a new menu, “Chocolaut”, consisting of chocolate cocktails, chocolate shots, and an assortment of chocolates and truffles. The Chocolaut Menu is available at Umlaut nightly

“Umlaut is exotic and sensual, yet has a dark warmth that is alluring, all of which comes to mind when describing chocolate, so it is a perfect marriage for the after-dinner lounge culture at Umlaut. This is truly a unique concept for a club or bar,” said

W. Brandt Wood, President of The Entertainment Collaborative, owners and management team behind Umlaut and other local favorites such as Trees,

The Green Room, Gypsy Tea Room, and Jeroboam.

The Chocolaut menu is divided into three sections: Chocolaut Martinis and Cocktails; Chocolaut Liquor shots served in edible chocolate shot glasses; and Chocolauts and truffles ala cart from Dallas chocolatier, Morgen Chocolate.

“The menu is comprised of only the most decadent chocolates and cocktails- perfectly fitting the desires of our clientele. I hope to see couples out on a date come in for a chocolate tasting and Dallas’ chic single scene coming in for a chocolate martini before hitting the dance floor,” said Erick Schlather, Wood’s management partner at The EC.

Rex Morgen, founder of Morgen Chocolate, studied as an apprentice in

The Hague, Netherlands before bringing his old world style of high-quality, hand-made chocolates to Dallas in 1983.  Morgen Chocolate is available at the retail factory store, 4516 McKinney Avenue and retailers across the country including Neiman Marcus in addition to Umlaut.

Umlaut is located in a historic downtown building underground at 1602-B Main Street. The sub-terranean lounge opened in September of 2001, and its current hours of operation are 8:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday nights.
