Hands Free Security Reduces Stress and ID Loss

By Madelyn Miller

A Texas businesswoman has designed a postcard-sized travel pouch meant to be hung around the neck, featuring clear plastic windows that can display an air traveler's ticket or boarding pass and driver's license or other identification card and a back pocket to hold other need travel cards.

Judy Jacobs said she came up with the hands-free approach to airport security after she lost her driver's license at a security checkpoint. By some industry estimates, the number of lost IDs has risen as much as 25 percent as stricter post-September 11 security has called for travelers to produce identification several times before boarding.

Jacobs, a health administrator who travels three weeks a month, says she is rarely asked to take the pouch off going through security checkpoints.  "I have been using my Security Pouch for 11 months now ... and I have only been asked to take off the pouch one time," she said, adding that that was last October.  "I always wear it through the security check and it has never set off the alarm. The only metal in the pouch is a tiny spring inside the plastic clip to adjust the cord. The zipper is not metal," she adds.

"Just to give you an idea of the various airports I have been in and have worn the Security Pouch through security checks -- New York City, San Francisco, Boston, Detroit, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, and tons of small airports too, like Wausau, Wisconsin, and Marquette, Michigan. I typically get a 'thank you' from the security folks for making their job a little easier," Jacobs said.

According to Diana Fairechild, author of Jet Smarter and an air safety advocate "The Easy TravelAir pouch is well thought out and well-made. It makes negotiating the airport security maze a cinch”.  Domestic and international travelers find that the Security Pouch is definitely a stress reducer. Whether a novice traveler or an experienced travelers like Kristen Skogrand, founder of The Safe Flier Foundation, travelers find the Easy TravelAir Security Pouch a simple and inexpensive way to make traveling less stressful.

The pouch sells for $14.99.
