Southlake Buca di Beppo
Another Big Mouth Comes to Southlake
By Madelyn Miller
A delicious restaurant expands its Italian family fare
dining.
I’ll never forget the first Buca di Beppo I visited. It
was with three girlfriends and we thought it was the most hilarious place we
had ever eaten at. And the food was good, too.
Women always love going to the bathroom, but restrooms
at Buca di Beppo are a hoot for both men and women. I loved the Pope’s room,
the wild décor and the funky pictures all over the walls. Of course it takes
a certain kind of person to work there, and the employees seem to be having
as much fun as the guests.
I have visited several “Bucas” and now have the
strategy down pat. I know how to share, which dishes to choose, and even how
to convince my dining partners to order the ones I like. It really is not
hard. Everything is good and the portions are so huge that even if one dish
isn’t a favorite, you will certainly love the others.
A few of my favorites are the Di Beppo "1893" Salad
(which is an antipasto-type salad), the Margherita Pizza,
(only order the hot and spicy angry pizza if you truly love hot and spicy),
the Veal Marsala, and the eggplant Parmigiana. For dessert, I adore the
cheesecake and bread pudding with caramel sauce.
Our waitress admitted they were urged to push the side
dishes, and she was wildly complimentary of the beans and escarole. We still
passed on that one but did enjoy the green beans and mashed potatoes. I
think the side dishes are not as good a value as the entrees and pizza.
Our bill for ten people averaged out at under $17.00 a
person, even though we had 3 appetizers, two entrees, a pizza, three
desserts, two pastas and a partridge in a pear tree (just kidding about the
last one, but no one would have had room to eat it) Each of us left with a
doggy box. In summary, we made pigs of ourselves, and enjoyed every minute
of it. As did everyone else sitting around us.
