What kind of shoes do you wear to a Barefoot Wine dinner?
by Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady
The winemaker, Jennifer
wore boots. Publisher Lupita wore boots. I wore my most comfortable
shoes--they seemed appropriate for a fruit forward, food friendly wine. Just
like my shoes, the Barefoot wine group is easy to pair.
The dinner was held a Local, a restaurant I had driven by many times but
never tried. It was as exciting a discovery as the Barefoot wines that
Jennifer chose to pair with the food.
Greeting
Since I was planning a party the next evening, my mind was on what to
serve to a group of journalist friends. Jennifer chose the Barefoot Bubbly
Brut Cuvee. It set the mood and everyone was in high spirits before we sat
down to dinner. Note to self: remember Barefoot Brut Cuvee as a party
starter.
Six Fabulous Courses
Course One
The menu promised Local's fried green beans with a dipping sauce. Fresh
and crispy, the greeen beans were complimented by Barefoot Bubbly Pino
Grigio Champagne
Course Two
My favorite course was the fresh sugar pumpkin soup with creme fraice and
crispy carrots. I wanted to order this for dessert, too. And when I do go
back, it will be my first dish to order. Jennifer likes Chardonay with
pumpkin and I thought they were good together
Course Three
Local baby arugula and a brown sugar saute of mini pears with pure luck's
hoelessly blue grilled bruschetta and tawakoni honey balsamic. Jennifer
Chose Barefoot Bubbly Rose, the newest barefoot bubbly. She likes the white
peach and strawberry flavors
Course Four
Cornflake Panko crusted seabass over rustic cauliflower mash, haricort
vert saute and herb buerre blanc. Jennifer chose Barefoot Pinot Noir because
of its silky lingering finish.
Course Five
Grilled all natural tenderloin filet with panko crusted fries, petite
herb salad with a tawny port balsamic finish. Jennifer served this with a
Barefoot Zinfandel, the first wine she added to the barefoot line in 1996.
Course Six
Red pear and Apple slab pie with vanilla bean ice cream, pistachios, and
warm honey butter. It was served with my favorite wine of all--the Barefoot
Bubbly Moscato Spumante
