Disney Does it Again!

By Becky J. Beall

On November 16, 2004 Walt Disney World, Orlando’s famed theme park, added to its attraction collection with the opening of Stitches Great Escape! located in the Magic Kingdom park. Young and old alike stood in line to preview this new attraction which features the popular Disney movie character Stitch from the Disney movie Lilo and Stitch.

Upon entrance to the Magic Kingdom on this fall morning, there was strong evidence that something was different…something mischievous was definitely going on. There was noise and commotion around Cinderella’s castle so I went to check it out. Everyone was staring and pointing…I couldn’t believe it myself! The infamous castle had been vandalized…toilet papered! And there was graffiti on the side. “Stitch is King,” it said in bright, bold letters. “What is going on?” I thought.

Disney doesn’t do anything without a splash and this was certainly no exception. The preview of Stitches Great Escape! was preceded by an opening show (Elvis dancers nonetheless) on the steps of the castle where the playful character was arrested by park police for his actions unleashed on the castle. He was escorted to the experiment room, a.k.a. the attraction, where it was reported that his endeavors had once again led him to evade law enforcement.

Stitches Great Escape! is a family attraction where mom and dad will have as much fun as young kids and teens. This attraction accommodates all the senses: sight, sound and, yes (ewww!) smell into a fun-filled Tomorrowland adventure. If you thought you’d seen all Disney has to offer, you’re wrong! It’s time to go again!
