First-Ever Amazon Photo Journey
International Expeditions New Ship Possesses Ideal Accommodations for
Exploring
International
Expeditions, a leader in worldwide nature travel, has announced that
photographer, illustrator and teacher Eliot Cohen will lead a one-time photo
journey along the upper reaches of the Amazon River. A six-night sailing
aboard the riverboat M/V Amatista will take travelers deep into the
rainforest, offering special photographic opportunities. The total program
length is nine days, and the departure date is June 11, 2005.
The journey will combine digital photography with daily
workshop sessions to teach participants how to edit their using Adobe
hop. There will be excursions to photograph the wildlife, people and
landscapes of the Amazon. Back on board ship, there will discussions on
digital photography and editing, with Eliot Cohen working with the group and
with individuals to review photographs, suggest alternative techniques, and
to learn the use of hop. Participants will work on their own laptops.
Beginning with one night in Lima, the capital of Peru,
participants fly to the Amazon River port of Iquitos and embark the Amatista.
The voyage travels far up the Amazon to the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, the
largest wetland reserve in the world, which is home to a vast amount of
wildlife. Animals likely to be seen include macaws, toucans howler and
squirrel monkeys, sloths, and nocturnal species such as caimans, capybaras
and potoos. After the voyage, guests fly back to Lima before returning home.
“This journey is a perfect combination of elements,
combining the rich habitats of the Amazon with intensive work on photography
and photo editing,” said Ralph Hammelbacher, International Expeditions’
president. “Eliot Cohen is one of the finest teachers I’ve ever known, and
he is a master at both digital photography and Adobe hop.”
Eliot Cohen was Program Head for Photography at
Northern Virginia Community College (Loudoun Campus) for 21 years, and
received NVCC’s highest award for teaching excellence. He also was a member
of the adjunct faculty at the Corcoran School of Art. He has worked for
clients such as the National Park Service, USDA, Fannie Mae and the
Smithsonian, and has taught hop editing techniques to the staffs of
the Washington Post, World Bank and National Association of Realtors. He
offers classes in digital photography and hop through a number of
organizations.
The program cost of $2,398 per person includes airfare
within Peru, all accommodations and all excursions. International airfare is
additional.
