MORNING MASSAGE
By Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady

When the alarm went off at 7AM I shuffled out of bed and
down to the Kohala Spa at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Normally I am not up at
this time---but anytime is a good time for a massage.

I am in Hawaii, on the Big Island, also known as “the
healing island”. As I heard the alarm and I tried to find my shoes and remember
where the spa was I wondered why I had signed up for this.

But an hour later, I decided that a morning massage may be
the best time of all. Since I was so “relaxed” (is that a euphemism for
overtired or not yet awake) the therapist was able to really work on my muscles.

Christal would probably do a fabulous job even if you were
wound as tightly as a drum, She is skilled in the traditional Hawaiian massage,
or Lomi Lomi and other techniques, and really focused on my problem areas. From
the moment I heard her name, I knew I was in for a treat. It made me think of
healing crystals. And her skillful touch did not disappoint.
WHAT WAS LESS THAN FABULOUS?

I had planned to get to the spa early to unwind in
the hot tub before my treatment. I did find the beautiful whirlpool but could
not find anyone to explain how to get it to work, I had removed my clothes and
did not want to get dressed, go out and find an attendant, walk back to the
whirlpool and then take off my clothes again.
Wouldn’t it have been nice if someone had turned on the
whirlpool for me?
Or perhaps there was an explanation of how to do it?
I am not the only one who had this problem. When I
mentioned it to Christal, she said this happens all the time and she always
shows her clients back to the whirlpool after their treatment. But I like
to do the whirlpool first, so the nourishing massage oils and creams can soak
into my skin.

ABUNDANT OFFERINGS

Everything else was where you needed it and in
abundant supply. Lots of magazines in each place you might want to read them.
Lots of shower caps, razors, combs, tissue, and big dispensers of shampoo,
mouthwash and lotion.

I went back to my room and realized I had skipped a morning
coffee. But I was so relaxed I did not need a buzz.
Maybe massage is a good way to start to start the day.
Especially if it is at the Kohala Spa in the Hilton
Waikoloa Village.

And you can buy all their signature product and take them
home. I know there they work wonderfully well—but using them on the healing Big
Island seems best of all

IS THERE ANYTHING BETTER THAN A MORNING MASSAGE?

It might be the couples massage. I saw these two blissfully
happy people walking away from the pool massage area and had to stop and ask
them if they had just had a couples massage. I was right.
