Think of your Heart all Year Long
Edited by Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady
February is Heart Month. While Medical City Dallas Heart
promotes heart-healthy lifestyles year round, February is the month that Medical
City Dallas Heart emphasizes this very important topic.
During February, Medical City is conducting several
activities to commemorate American Heart Month:
1. 2007 Heart Healthy Booklet - Recently distributed by
Medical City Heart, this booklet is full of ways to get your heart in shape.
From suggesting lifestyle enhancement programs such as the Hearts & Soles mall
walking club that makes it possible to stay fit no matter the weather, to
heart-healthy "Restaurants to Know by Heart" and "Healthy Recipes Kids Love,"
this booklet is packed with heart-healthy ideas.
2. Mother/Daughter Heart-Healthy Cooking Classes - On Feb.
6, Medical City Heart and Central Market are teaming up to host a heart-healthy
cooking class for mothers and daughters from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Central
Market at 5750 E. Lovers Lane. Featuring the hospital's executive chef and all
of the best seasonal ingredients, this is the first in a series of cooking
classes offered by Medical City Heart and Central Market.
3. Ask A Specialist Station at White Rock Lake - Back by
popular demand, "Ask A Specialist" at White Rock Lake begins again on Feb. 10.
Walkers, runners and cyclists can learn more about personal health by stopping
by Medical City's Ask a Specialist health information station, located on the
south side of W. Lawther Drive between Branchfield Drive and Fisher Road.
The Feb. 10 event will emphasize heart health, and the post
will be staffed by specialists from Medical City such as physicians, nurses,
registered dieticians, physical therapists, exercise physiologists and others.
The station will be set up from 8 to 11 a.m. on the second Saturday of each
month through June.
4. Heart-Healthy Seminar at Body Worlds Exhibit - On Feb.
13, associated with the Body Worlds exhibit at the Museum of Nature and Science,
Medical City Heart is sponsoring a free public seminar that focuses on heart
health beginning at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Allan Anderson, a cardiologist at Medical
City, will speak about medical advances in the detection and diagnosis of
cardiovascular disease. Register by calling 972-566-2333. Registration does not
include visiting the exhibit. Those who register by 5 p.m., Monday, Feb.12, will
be entered in a drawing for two complimentary admission tickets to the Body
Worlds exhibit. The Museum of Nature and Science is located at 1318 S. Second
Ave. in Fair Park, Dallas.
