Celebrate Jamaican Cuisine and Culture at Jerkfest

Hedonism III started a tradition last year with its Jerkfest events showcasing the spicy soul of Jamaican cooking.

This year Jerkfest coincides with Jamaica's August 1 Emancipation Day, when guests can help Jamaicans celebrate their independence while liberating their taste buds and perhaps a few inhibitions.  After all, this is the resort that invites guests to be wicked.

Hedonism III brings the tastes and sounds of Jamaica to its seaside location through the talents of local personalities.   Pulsing reggae music, rhythmic dances and fiery spices set the mood for the spirited weekend event, exploring the "essence of jerk" evoked by the island's rich culture, heritage and flavorful cuisine.

The "Original Boston Jerk," a group of expert "jerkers" from the Jamaican town of Boston, will express their inner jerks in a live demonstration on the art of jerking chicken, pork, fish and vegetables.  Sampling their handiwork can best be appreciated with a chilled bottle of Red Stripe.

Guest chefs from the island will also host cooking classes and provide tips on how to add a Caribbean flair to everyday meals. A Friday night fish fry will be a beachside event boasting cooking stations where guests are invited to choose their fish and have it prepared to perfection on the spot.

A Saturday marketplace at the resort will feature local artisans including a hat maker, basket straw weaver, leather craftsman, honey maker, ceramist, painter and palm reader.  Paintings and sculptures from island artists will be on display all weekend.  Guests will also have the opportunity to interact with representatives from Walkerswood and Busha Brown authentic spices and sauces, Tastee patties, Appleton rum and liquors, Jablum coffee, Barron Hall's coffees and liquors.

Jamaica's top radio station FAME - FM will host the musical entertainment for evening parties, while mento and steel bands bring the night to life with their pulsing rhythms, sounds and distinct island character.
