Cooking School--Your Palates Delight

By Karen Devine

During your visit to New Orleans be prepared to make a stop at the New Orleans Cooking School and Louisiana General Store. Schedule yourself for a few hours of cooking fun. With the current trends toward lighter cuisine they will teach you how to prepare those legendary dishes of seafood Gumbo, Chicken, Andouille sausage and Shrimp Jambalya, and of course Bread Pudding.

Then upon your return home you can cook this same wonderful cuisine for your family and friends that you enjoyed while visiting New Orleans. You will experience some of the history, traditions (often times Granny’s secrets), and will be supplied with every kind of Bayou blend needed to cook Cajun while you enjoy the classroom experience with a local chef and part time comedian Kevin Belton…and just maybe one of New Orleans famous chefs like Emeril Lagasse or Paul Prudhomme will stop in for a quick visit.

The New Orleans Cooking School and Louisiana General Stores chef “Big Kevin” will walk you through making the traditionally unique trilogy dishes that have made New Orleans famous for its cooking. He’ll tell you the history and lore of truly Cajun Creole cuisine while he teaches you about this trilogy of cooking which uses the essential flavors and spices from the local area. When class is complete and you return to the general store, stock up on cookbooks, spices, chickory coffee; to return home with all the ingredients necessary to take your newly acquired knowledge and prepare a wonderfully traditional Creole meal for your family and friends.

You can find all these must have ingredients and register for the classes via the World Wide Web.
