This Summer
For Blues, Theatre And Jazz Lovers
This season, the city of Chicago will offer visitors
more ways to celebrate the arts with a new series of Immersion Weekend
packages, a feature of the citywide tourism initiative, Play On Chicago:
Summer in Chicago 2003. Each Immersion Weekend package will include a
two-night stay in a downtown hotel, along with tickets to some of the
hottest events in the city and access to special receptions hosted by
leading arts experts.
"Immersion Weekends offer unique experiences for
visitors to enjoy Chicago's many cultural offerings--from blues and jazz to
theatre and visual arts," said Dorothy Coyle, Director of the Chicago Office
of Tourism. "Guests will also have the chance to enjoy a special Immersion
Weekend taking place during Tall Ships® Chicago. The Immersion Weekend
packages provide flexibility for guests to add to their itinerary or just
relax, and make planning a getaway easy and hassle-free."
The Immersion Weekends offered this summer, as well as
a new Immersion Weekend package for fall include:
BLUES: June 20-22, 2003

Celebrate the “Year of the Blues” with a lecture and
reception on Friday night at the Chicago Blues Exchange, followed by main
floor tickets to see 12-time Grammy Award winner Ray Charles in concert. On
Saturday night, you’ll head to Buddy Guy’s Legends for dinner and an early
set, followed by drinks and a second set at Eddy “The Chief” Clearwater’s
Reservation Blues.

Begin your weekend with a pre-show reception, lecture
and tickets to Lookingglass Theatre Company’s world premiere production of
Race, the stage adaptation of Studs Terkel’s acclaimed book, directed by

The summer Immersion Weekends are a part of Play On
Chicago, a collaborative initiative of the Chicago Office of Tourism, the
Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, the Mayor’s Office of Special Events
and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Bureau of
Tourism. Play On Chicago offers a wide range of musical events and
activities at several of Chicago’s premier hotels, cultural institutions and
restaurants as well as special hotel values and hospitality packages. Play
On Chicago will run from June 1 through September 21, 2003.
