Thoroughly Modern Millie
The Most Honored New Show on Broadway
And Winner of Six Tony Awards - Presented by Dallas
Summer Musicals
AT THE MUSIC HALL at fair park, JULY 22-AUGUST 3
The
winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie
was 2002’s most awarded new show on Broadway. A delightful valentine to the
spirit of adventure and the people who seek to discover themselves, the
stage version of Thoroughly Modern Millie takes audiences back to the height
of the Jazz Age, when “moderns”—including a flapper named Millie Dillmount—were
bobbing their hair, raising their hemlines, entering the workforce, and
rewriting the rules of love.
Now the spectacular experience that is Millie is coming
to the Music Hall at Fair Park, presented by Dallas Summer Musicals July
22-August 3. The production, presented by Olay® Regenerist™, is directed
by Michael Mayer and choreographed by Richard Ashford, with a book by
Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan, music by Jeanine Tesori and lyrics by Dick
Scanlan. The musical, based on the 1967 Oscar-winning film of the same name,
features 15 songs, including two from the film, four standards from the
1920s, and 9 new songs by Tesori and Scanlan.
Thoroughly Modern Millie tickets are priced from
$10-$58, and can be purchased through The Box Office, 542 Preston Royal
Shopping Center, or any Ticketmaster outlet, including The Majestic Theatre
Box Office, Fiesta or Foley’s Stores, Tower Records or Wherehouse Music.
Tickets may also be purchased by calling 214-631-ARTS (2787) or online at
www.ticketmaster.com. For groups of 20 or more, call 214-426-GROUP.
On Broadway, Thoroughly Modern Millie won six Tony
Awards, including Best Musical, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, and
Best Costume Design, as well as five Drama Desk Awards including Best
Musical.
The critics were also impressed with John Simon of New
York Magazine calling Millie “Sheer – Mind-Teasing, Heart-Tickling Delight!
Critic’s choice!”
“As bubbly as a glass of champagne—a bright, breezy
American musical with nothing more on its mind than an evening of
entertainment. The show is refreshingly old-fashioned. The new score
celebrates the 1920s in a joyous and affectionate manner.” — Michael
Kuchwara, Associated Press.
