Surfing Stockholm

By Madelyn Miller

Surrounded by water, Stockholm is a paradise for people who love boating, sailing, or cruising. Built on 14 islands, you are never far from the water. And after a week of exploring the city and surrounding areas, I found the best place to surf.

The Sheraton Stockholm Hotel & Towers is not just located in a terrific location, centered in the business and tourist areas, but also offers FREE surfing.

Cyber-surfing that is.

The lower floors of the hotel, including the lobby, restaurants and mezzanine, are set up for wi-fi surfing, for in house guests this service is currently provided at no additional charge.  This is especially valuable, because internet cafes are not plentiful in this sophisticated city.

I love sitting at my giant size desk (bigger and certainly neater than the one I have at home) with five international plug options plus two Swedish outlets. I feel totally plugged in and can recharge my camera battery, computer, and etc. all at one time.

My room has a fresh Scandinavian design with wooden floors, warm cherry woods and Hästens beds. There is a colorful Swedish designed woolen rug that adds warmth and color.

Sheraton Stockholm is the perfect home for exploring the well-preserved medieval buildings that stand alongside modern architecture. Stockholm is a city of contrasts—water and islands, history and innovation, small town and big city, short winter days and long, light summer nights—with a dazzling array of impressions.  Thanks to the city’s compact size, you can see and do most things a short space of time—which makes it a perfect destination for city breaks or longer stays, all the year round.

THE SHERATON STOCKHOLM IS UP-TO-DATE in every way

Exciting things are happening at the Sheraton Stockholm! Those in the know are already sipping on cocktails and exclusive champagnes from the newly opened champagne bar in the lobby. To compliment this there is a new selection of bar ‘eats’ and the restaurant menu has also been revamped.

The entire Food & Beverage was re-launched. New concepts include a brand new Champagne, Wine and Water bar with exciting wine tastings. Just ask the staff to recommend the best Champagnes, Wines and Waters to suit the season and your every mood. The Sheraton Restaurant boasts a new selection of Swedish and international dishes, to satisfy every taste. You can lounge in the Sheraton bar to enjoy the premium selection of Cocktails and other beverages that have been selected by some of Sweden’s best restaurateurs and sommeliers. The German pub has remained, as after many years it is still as popular as it's always been.

Tired of tired conference guests?

In conjunction with Hästens, the famous Swedish bed manufacture, and Grythyttan, Sweden’s foremost gourmet institute, Sheraton Stockhom has produced the ideal conference combination. Tips on a good nights sleep followed by food combinations that will have delegates fresh and alert throughout the day. Coupled with an easy in room exercise routine  delegates will want to come back for more.

In Sweden, the seasons are a contrast. Light summer nights when the sun barely dips below the horizon alternates with short, snowy winter days.

Stockholm is one third water, one third green belt and one third city.

Stockholm has got history—but also the latest in fashion and IT. The trendy Stockholmers are often used as a test market by international companies, as they are quick to pick up on the latest trends. This is the most obvious on the island of Sodermalm, a hotbed of fashion, young culture and entertainment.

There are lots of interesting ethnic choices in this food market. I saw a crowd around a Turkish sandwich shop and decided to follow the natives. For less than four dollars 25kr. I had a vegetarian pita filled with a stuffed grape leaf, fried eggplant and more vegetables all covered with lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and smothered with garlic sauce, red pepper sauce and eggplant sauce. Yum. And then I found out this bargain price included water or apple juice.
