Jaguar Brings Together Emerging Artists and Automotive Style
for a Unique Project
Car enthusiasts and art lovers alike have
something to celebrate this July. Jaguar has teamed up with W magazine and more
than a dozen of today’s most noteworthy emerging artists for a unique
collaboration. At the -scopeHamptons Art Fair, July 15-17 in Southampton, NY,
Jaguar will showcase each artist’s creative vision on an unusual blank canvas -
a 1/18th scale model of a Jaguar X-TYPE automobile.
Festivities will include a silent auction,
cinema which promises to blur classic expectations of video and film, various
performances, a children’s day and an art fair. Jaguar will donate the
one-of-a-kind scale models to the fair’s silent auction, which runs concurrently
from Friday, July 15 through Sunday, July 17. All proceeds will benefit The
Retreat (www.theretreatinc.org),
the only domestic violence agency on Long Island’s East End.
Don’t be intimidated if you are one of the
many people who are somewhat bewildered when it comes to contemporary art. You
are not alone and the mission of -scope, they say, is to demystify the buying
process of contemporary art. -Scope accomplishes this by producing international
art fairs of cutting-edge art and emerging culture. The fairs bring together
up-and-coming dealers, curators and artists in a relaxed atmosphere. The
exhibitions cultivate a unique forum for contemporary art and emerging culture.
This year’s contributing artists are Jin
Meyerson, Kenzo Minami, Tad Lauritzen Wright, Danny Hobart, Pierre Abando,
Thomas Wrede, Simon Aldridge, Johnson Foster, Guerra De La Paz, As Four, Jose E.
Guinto, Shinique Smith, Jeff Sonhouse, Jim Wright and James McLeod & Josh
Weintraub.
In case you’re not an art buff, I’ll give
you one little hint. As Four is a New York fashion collective comprised of four
young designers known only by their first names--Adi, Ange, Kai and Gabi. The
team, which made its runway debut in 2001, is best known for its “circle bags”
of “Sex and the City” fame.
