World Bodypainting Festival
Each year in
midsummer, in the middle of breathtaking scenery, Europe's most colourful Event
takes place. The "World Bodypainting Festival ®". A get together of body-artists
from all over the world, will be held from the 18th. - 24th. July, amidst the
mountains and lakes in the south of Austria. There will be a brilliant display
of "decorated skin" to admire, because once again, artists from around 40
Nations – including Australia, South Korea, Canada, USA, Columbia, Argentina and
South Africa – will be coming to this impressive Event. The festival is the best
gallery in the world for artists to exhibit their bodyart work.
20,000 visitors are
expected in the upcoming world championships for bodypainters. The Lake
Millstätter See region's scenery is the stage, where bodies are boldly put on
show, and each artist has the opportunity to show his/her own specialities -
bodies painted with many different materials and techniques, and sometimes
combined with the most fantastic costumes, masks and show effects.
The bodypainting will take place in the
Klauber Park in Seeboden, where the unique surroundings of Lake Millstatt
provide an impressionistic backdrop. The bodypainting work at the event is of a
high artistic quality. Female - as well as male bodies - are painted
aesthetically, either to the given theme, or from an artistic viewpoint. The
World Bodypainting Festival at Lake Millstatt is the first of its kind in the
world and has become the “Mecca of Bodypainting”.
The Bodypainting Contest – "World Bodypainting Award“
22nd – 24th July 2005
Artists may also take
part in the Bodypainting Contest – the “World Bodypainting Award”. Their models
have to be painted to the two given themes. This year the themes are “World of
Music” at the pre selction days and “Comics” on the final day.
Several hours of extreme concentration is
required from the artists, as well as a lot of patience from the models! In the
late afternoon, the decorated bodies will be presented to the audience and to
the judges. During the presentation, spectacular shows will astonish the
visitors!
There are 3 different categories that the
participants can take part in - the brush/sponge-technique, the Airbrush-
technique, and the Special-Effects category. Each of these categories will be
judged separately.
2005 will be also the first night contest
in bodypainting. Fluoroszent colours will be used and the models will glow and
shine by using ultra violet lights all around the stage. Spectacular effects are
guaranted and will be shown to the audience.
The daily programmes for the main days,
Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will be enlivened by a variety of show events, a
colour-performance, multimedia-shows, drum-sessions, fantasy fashion-shows,
styling-shows, music, DJ’s and lots more.
On the festival grounds there will be an
interesting exhibition area with some of the biggest bodypainting colour
producers, but also airbrush and special effects equipment as well as
bodypainting accessories.
The whole festival week is dominated by the
bodypainting theme. Starting from July 18th, there will be a lot of side events,
workshops and seminars for bodypainting, photography, make-up and choreography.
The Bodypainting Photo-days and the “World Bodypainting
Photo Award”
The festival offers
photographers the best opportunity to really "go wild" for once, because nowhere
else can provide the combination of so much decorated skin and such unique
settings, and all in front of the camera.
The models can only be "captured" once,
before the works of art ultimately fade away. For photographers, an extensive
programme is available, with lectures, workshops and photo-shootings. There is
also a restricted area, reserved for photographers and the “body painted” models
only.
Some of the most fantastic productions are
created here, and these can then be entered in the competition. The "World
Bodypainting Photo Award“ is the prize of the photo competition for the two
categories “colour photo” and “slide”. Last year, about 400 photos were sent to
the jury, and these were presented in an exclusive photo catalogue some weeks
after the contest. A large photo gallery can be admired on the Internet under
the address "www.bodypainting-festival.com", as well as at the exhibition in the
Cultural Centre in Seeboden, about a month before the festival.
