Tired of Eating Unpalatable Airline Food?

El Al Airline Comes to the Rescue with New Healthy Menus

EL AL, Israel’s national airline, is being very good to its Platinum Business Class members. Chef Avner Niv designed new menus to reflect the changing preferences of EL AL passengers toward healthier diets.  Each menu features dishes that are lower in fat with lighter sauces and nutritious ingredients.  A choice of the finest Israeli red and white wines as well as a selection of liquor, beer and soda is also available upon request.

In his many years of experience, Executive Chef Avner Niv began his career as a head cook in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on a navy missile ship and most recently served as the private chef to the Versace family in New York.  His experience and taste for culinary excellence can now be enjoyed with EL AL’s new Platinum Business Class menu.

Platinum Business Class passengers will not be disappointed with these menus. Everyone will be pleased with meals such as grilled vegetables mixed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar and a fresh tossed salad, accompanied by a choice of chicken breast in a teriyaki sauce with sweet potato puree and green beans, or a rib-eye steak in a peppercorn sauce with roasted potatoes, or seared salmon in an orange, chive and red peppercorn sauce with saffron rice and steamed carrots – on an airplane! A variety of freshly baked breads are also served.  Dessert includes a selection of gourmet pastries, chocolate pralines and fresh fruit.

All meals served on EL AL are kosher.  In addition to the regular tasty menu, EL AL offers 19 special meals, which are available upon request and must be ordered at least 24 hours prior to departure.  Included are special glatt kosher Regal meals as well as diabetic, vegetarian, gluten free, salt free, etc.

“Following the requests of our passengers, EL AL is proud to offer health conscious, kosher gourmet in-flight meals as yet another example of our commitment to responding to the wishes of our passengers,” said Michael Mayer, General Manager of North & Central American, EL AL USA.  “Cuisine is an important aspect of the EL AL travel experience and we are pleased to be one of the few airlines that continues to upgrade and serve complete meals as well as snacks.”

“Borenstein Caterers prides itself on designing and preparing high-quality kosher meals using the finest ingredients,” said Jacob Li-or, President & CEO of Borenstein Caterers.  “Chef Avner Niv has created a spectacular menu to meet the needs of EL AL’s wide variety of international passengers.” Borenstein Caterers is the only fully equipped and complete kosher flight kitchen in the USA.
