Chic Spa Adds Final Sparkle to an African Jewel

This Spa, set amidst stunning natural beauty, is a slice of pure heaven. The Twelve Apostles' Sanctuary Spa is nestled in a grotto in the slopes of Fynbos-clad Twelve Apostles mountain range where the natural rhythms of the Atlantic Ocean are only a few metres away. This is an idyllic retreat with its state-of-the-art spa equipment and treatments ranging from Hydrotherapy to Alternative Healing. Time loses all meaning in dry-therapy rooms, in the candle-lit cave with its plunge pools and Brine pool, whilst a visit to Cape Town's only Rasul Chamber invigorates mind, body and soul.

The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa is a sophisticated, modern boutique hotel providing seventy stylish bedrooms and suites. The hotel's distinctly different and chic Azure restaurant, with its spectacular sea views, pampers each guest with attentive, yet unobtrusive service. There is also a private cinema and state-of-the-art conference facilities for up to seventy persons.

For the international visitor, the Sanctuary Spa aids relaxation and restoration in a uniquely South African way whilst, being only ten minutes from Cape Town’s city centre, it's the perfect day-retreat for locals.

Integrating Pholosophy and Design

The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Sanctuary Spa believe the healing energies of nature combined with an expert choice of quality products and treatments is the best route to healing and overall well-being. As such, every aspect of the spa has been designed to encapsulate this philosophy.

Its physical location naturally embraces the healing energies of Earth, Air and Water while the Eastern spirit interior creates a soothing and tranquil ambience. Brian Brennan and Toni Tollman chose the element of water as the dominant feature in the spa and together with earth tones and other natural materials of rock, glass and steel an ambience of harmony and tranquility has been created.

The spa is divided into two distinct areas - the Sanctuary and Upper Sanctuary. Sandblasted glass walkovers complete with light therapy lead you into the grotto where the eye is drawn between rock pillars to a rest area. Here, an outside waterfall, safeguarded on either side by statues of Buddha, brings the surrounding natural environment inside and provides the ideal spot to relax and revitalize. Hot and cold-water plunge pools entice you from the walkover down a staircase into the candlelit cave. Loungers placed amongst this natural energy offer relaxation while the concealed Brine flotation pool with starlit ceiling energizes and restores. Further on into the grotto, one will find a Sauna as well as Cape Town's only Rasul Chamber. Guests are enveloped in mineralized mud from the Dead Sea and gently embraced by a soothing mist whilst a gentle rain washes the mud away - refreshing and renewing mind, body and spirit.

The Upper Sanctuary consists of seven treatment rooms equipped with sound and light therapy. 'Resin floors bring harmony from the rocks to the treatment areas creating a sleek transfer from the water element to the calm and seclusion of the treatment rooms,' comments Brennan. Five dry-therapy rooms host heated massage beds whilst the two water therapy rooms are adapted to include hydrotherapy and Vichy shower treatments. The spa boasts inter-leading rooms allowing for couples to enjoy treatments together. Secluded African-styled outdoor gazebos allow guests the opportunity to experience therapies enhanced by the elements of the Atlantic Ocean, fresh air and the natural aromas of the surrounding Fynbos vegetation.

Alison Rightford, founder of the Image Institute, has used her expertise to cater to just about every need, from clients seeking holistic therapy to sportsmen requiring specialized treatments.  She has put together a range of treatments and products that embrace The Sanctuary Spa's philosophy by employing the benefits of Moya Products - exclusively prepared indigenous products and oils from the Cape's purest plant extracts.

All day spa guests and members have use of hotel amenities and spa facilities during their visit. Between treatments guests can relax in the hotel's gardens, break for lunch in Azure or meander up the clearly marked mountain paths and end the day with a beautiful sunset overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the Leopard Room Bar and Lounge.

Rightford has developed a diverse range of treatments to suit a variety of needs; packages can be viewed at the Twelve Apostles website, listed below.
