Relax with the Music and Culture of the French-speaking
World at FrancoFolies de Montreal!
Here is a chance to learn about the culture
and music of 12 different French-speaking countries around the world at one
venue. An annual showcase for French-language musical expression,
Les FrancoFolies de Montreal constitutes a unique cultural experience. This
annual celebration of popular song will be happening once again right in the
heart of Montreal, offering the music-loving public an energetic and festive
venue for discovering what’s new in the musical fields of world beat, rock,
electronic and hip-hop in la francophonie.
About
one thousand artists from a dozen countries will be in town, both established
and up-coming stars including Bashung, Bernard Lavilliers, Enrico Macias, Diane
Dufresne, Stefie Shock, Taima, Marie Elaine Thibert, and Pierre Lapointe. Many
DJs and emerging musical projects will drop by as well, all amply illustrating
the richness and inventiveness of the musical traditions of French-speaking
countries around the world. Close to a million festival-goers will be downtown
to meet them at one of the 50 indoor concerts or 150 free outdoor shows to take
place on 6 outdoor stages especially constructed for the event. The downtown
area will be closed to traffic in the Festival quadrangle and colorfully
festooned with kiosks, outdoor terraces and roaming entertainment. There’s
nothing like it for summertime relaxation, whether you’re a native Montrealer or
out-of-town visitor.
This musical rendez-vous is a showcase for
musical exchange and collaboration between performers of the French-speaking
world, fittingly located in the biggest French-speaking city in North America.
It’ll all be happening from July 28th to August 6th, 2005.
