"Fly-fishing 101"
On the Housatonic River
The
Interlaken Inn Resort now has a fly-fishing school with classes held in June,
July and August. Aptly called Fly-fishing 101, the program is ideal for the
beginner and intermediate fly-fisher person, with guests receiving a great deal
of individual attention as well as the opportunity for over four hours of guided
fishing on the Housatonic River. All the basics in fly-casting and catching
trout and bass will be covered in the program.
The "Fly-fishing 101" package is offered
mid-week and on the weekend. Included in the package are two nights of deluxe
accommodations at the historic Interlaken Inn, a "Meet the Experts" reception,
and breakfast & lunch each day.
Guests attending Fly-fishing 101 will learn the basics; how to cast a fly rod
including the roll cast, how to "read" the water to locate fish, how to tie
knots and select the proper fly and tippet, how to fish and present nymphs,
streamers, & dry flies, wading safety and on-stream etiquette, appropriate
equipment selection, and how to catch trout in actual fishing situations vs. in
a stocked pond
Students are encouraged to bring their own rods and waders but if this is not
possible a rod will be provided. Waders can be rented for an additional charge.
The
Interlaken Inn is located in historic Litchfield County, Connecticut, in the
foothills of the Berkshires between two picturesque lakes. The property offers
80 first-class guestrooms and excellent dining.
The Interlaken Inn also features extensive resort, recreation and fitness
facilities. It is located adjacent to Hotchkiss Golf Course, which is
recognized as one of Connecticut's most scenic and challenging courses, and near
Route 7, Connecticut's renowned antique route.
The Interlaken Inn is 100 miles directly north of New York City on Rt. 112
(Interlaken Road) in Lakeville, Connecticut. Recently the historic property
completed an extensive renovation of all its facilities, including its
century-old original Victorian building.
