Whose got the button?

By Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady

Just like little boys who played with marbles, I was always fascinated by buttons. Even when I was little, I was sewing them on things, stringing them, and just enjoying sorting them by size and color.

Flash forward about fifty years.

Now I am obsessed with buttons. I have button covered purses, T-shirts, scarves, blouses and hats. I can’t resist jewelry made of buttons. My collection of buttons is carefully sorted by color and displayed in stylish glass bottles.

During my full-time mommy days, I joined the international Button Club and met weekly with serious button collectors. When I go to flea markets, I can never pass a bowl of buttons. It is one of the smallest and least expensive souvenirs you can buy.

My fondest memory of Ireland is when I wandered into a button store in Ireleand on a rainy afternoon and stayed for hours while the owner helped me assemble a button necklace. Whenever I wear it, I think of Dublin.

You could call me a button girl.

Recently, I discovered there was a book for people like me. BUTTON GIRL by Mikyla Bruder.

Now the world knows buttons aren’t just for button holes anymore! With Button Girl by Mikyla Bruder, crafty girls can create more than 20 stylish accessories including Button Barrettes and Bobbies, Hip Ribbon Belts, Crazy Coasters, and much more.
