Subarashee: For Those Who Enjoy the Finer Things in Life

Hotel Nikko San Francisco is located in the heart of the city, steps away from Union Square. The Museum of Modern Art, South of Market (SOMA) and the Financial District are all within walking distance. And now, guests at Hotel Nikko will enjoy luxury and convenience on a whole new level. The newly created Imperial Club rooms are pampering guests with many extras, including the newest luxury electronics:  bathroom mirrors with built-in television and built-in lighting. Hotel Nikko San Francisco will be the first hotel in the world to feature these devices, called VibeTV mirrors.

"Hotel Nikko San Francisco has long been recognized as the intersection where understated architecture meets the latest cutting-edge technology. So, it's only natural for us to redefine function and form in the bathroom by being the first hotel to offer the Vibe TV mirror" says John Hutar, general manager of the Hotel Nikko San Francisco.

The Imperial Club will occupy two floors of the hotel, the 23rd and 24th floors, with 28 guest rooms in total. Only guests who stay on the Imperial Club floors will be able to access these floors, using elevator keys. The guest rooms will feature many extra amenities and perks, including:

* The high-tech VibeTV bathroom mirrors with built-in TV and lighting
* 42-inch high-definition plasma televisions
* Complimentary wireless internet access (all of the hotel's rooms have high speed internet access)
* Complimentary local and 800-number phone calls
* Subarashee Yume (you-may) Beds that feature 28-inch deep pillow-top mattresses (reflecting the Japanese hospitality that underlies the hotel's origins, the name "Subarashee Yume" means "fantastic dreams" in Japanese.)
* Verde (by Gilchrist and Soames) bath amenities
* Subarashee Ame (ah-may) shower heads (Subarashee Ame means "fantastic rain" in Japanese)
* Frette linens
* Nightly turndown service featuring Japanese proverbs for guests to ponder as they fall asleep.
* Complimentary breakfast and evening beer and wine reception served daily in the Imperial Club's lounge.

"Subarashee Omoide - creating fantastic memories for each guest - is our core mission.  We're now taking this Subarashee concept further by offering amazing new bedding and shower products for time-stressed executives, giving them all of the amenities and services that will allow them to "Sleep comfortably, relax deeply".  Of course, our Imperial Club guests can also enjoy a workout at our atrium-covered swimming pool or our fully-equipped health club, or experience the world class cuisine of Restaurant ANZU," Mr. Hutar noted.

Manufactured by Electric Mirrors, LLC, in Seattle, the rooms' VibeTV mirrors have been designed especially for the hotel.  The TV screen will only be visible when the built-in television is turned on.

New Menu at ANZU

Executive Chef Philippe Striffeler at Hotel Nikko San Francisco has created a new menu at the hotel’s popular restaurant ANZU. Utilizing fresh and seasonal ingredients, the new menu features some unusual lighter dishes like Tasmanian Salmon, Hawaiian Snapper, and Kahuku Prawns (North Shore Prawns – sweet), which compliment the summer months nicely.

“ANZU’s core continues to be sushi and prime beef focusing on the ‘East meets West’ influence,” says Chef Striffeler of the new menu.  “All of the dishes have some hint or taste of Asia with the presentation focused on Asian grace and beauty.”

“Hotel Nikko San Francisco is working with many local vendors and purchasing produce that is locally grown, as well as using Chicken and Duck from Petaluma, CA, which helps ensure the freshness and quality of our dishes,” says Chef Striffeler.

Chef Striffeler began working with the hotel in 1996, and now oversees the entire Food and Beverage operation of Hotel Nikko San Francisco as Director of Food and Beverage, in addition to being the Executive Chef.  He is credited with the emergence of Restaurant ANZU in 1999, including the creation of "the prime of land and sea" menu that still exists.

Born in Switzerland, Chef Striffeler has cooked for and managed restaurants in some of the finest luxury hotels around the globe.  A graduate of the École Professionelle de la Societé Industrielle et Commerciale in Lausanne, Switzerland, his early culinary education included two vital apprenticeships - one at the Hotel Des Voyageurs in Lausanne, and the other with famous Swiss Chef Norbert Ziojen.  In France, Striffeler studied under the tutelage of renowned French Chefs Roger Vergé and Jean Troisgros.

Diners at ANZU can also opt to eat at the restaurant’s Sushi Bar where Master Sushi Chef, Kazuhito Takahashi, one of only a handful of Master Sushi Chefs in the United States, prepares sushi and sashimi.  Patrons may also order one of ANZU’s 50 signature sake martinis.

Every Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Restaurant ANZU at Hotel Nikko San Francisco presents Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch Live with KKSF FM 103.7.  The brunch buffet features an array of salads, entrees, breakfast favorites and desserts. Each Sunday the brunch has a different selection of entrees, but staples include made-to-order omelets, sushi and dim sum, all of which are accompanied by a choice of fruit juices, champagne or mimosas.

ANZU is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Reservations are suggested.  Complete menus and more information about ANZU and its Smooth Jazz Brunches, are available on their website: www.restaurantanzu.com.
