Woman on Wine

The winter wind may be blowing in New Zealand, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the latest racy whites from Down Under to take the steam out of our summer heat.

2004 Borthwick Sauvignon Blanc, Wairarapa
Like silk, this sexy SB slides across the tongue parading crisp fruit flavors and a lingering hint of vanilla. $

Coopers Creek
2004 Riesling, Marlborough
Pretty, girlie and a little bit coy, this is a wine with a flower bouquet of aromas and intense, dried nectarine flavors with just  a kiss of sweetness. $

Craggy Range
2004 Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc, Martinborough
An exceptional example of New Zealand’s “signature” grape, this SB is racy, like a girl who will pose with a Harley, but will think twice before hitting the open road in a fully loaded hog. It hints of passion fruit and lemongrass and has a thirst quenching tangy-tartness. $$

2004 Pheasant Grove Riesling, Canterbury
Like a true lady, this wine offers delicacy, yet has a strong backbone. Its tart acidity mingles with gooseberry and wildflowers. $

NV Seresin Moana Sparkling Wine, Marlborough
Surprisingly rich, this bubbly boasts an impressive weight that caresses the tongue. A wine made for seduction, its yeasty, doughy aromas exhibit similar structure to female pheromones. $$$

2004 Seresin Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough
In classic “Marlborough style,” this hot and sexy hit of Sauvignon Blanc makes for grown up drinking. Sophisticated and quite complex, thanks to a hint of Semillon, it is strong, structured and sensual. $

2003 Wither Hills Chardonnay, Marlborough
Racy and rugged, not unlike the famed Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs, this wine offers that hit of a romp through tall grass for which NZ wines are so well known, but it is rounded out by the voluptuous nature of the Chardonnay grape. $$
