GROOVING IN THE MOUNTAINS

Kitzbühel is again holding a Boogie Woogie & Blues Festival on 13-15 July with a programme of stars from the international music scene.

EDITED BY Madelyn Miller, the travelLady

Fancy an earful of the hottest music ever devised for the piano? You will find it in Kitzbühel! From 13 to 15 July. The Tyrolean resort is again being transformed into one big stage for Blues and Boogie for the third year running. Kitzbühel’s Boogie Woogie & Blues Festival lasts for three whole nights and occupies no fewer than eight hotels and cafés with live performances by world famous musicians. And of course Christoph Steinbach, Austria’s own Boogie Wolf and the man behind the festival, will again be tickling those ivories and pulling the crowds onto the dance floor.

Hot nights and laid back days

In 2005 the big festival attracted a good 6000 people to Kitzbühel. And this year, too, the exciting programme holds promise of a rare boogie-woogie and blues experience. It all starts on 13 July 2006 with a New Orleans Evening, with musical and culinary delights served on six stages in various Kitzbühel cafés and hotels. The next day, 14 July, is the absolute highlight of the festival, namely Boogie & Blues Night starring Vince Weber, who won the 1976 German Record Award with “The Boogie Man” and since rates as one of the best musicians in this style. The festival culminates in the Boogie Stars Open Air Party at Schwarzsee on 15 July. Against the breathtaking mountain backdrop, Albie Donelly (Supercharge) on sax, Pete York (Spencer Davis Group) on percussion, Christoph Steinbach on piano and Chris Farlowe as the vocalist can be trusted to set their audience grooving. And during the day the fans can switch from the hot mood of the blues to the cooler atmosphere of the idyllic summer mountains and recover from the long nights with a relaxing walk in beautiful countryside or take advantage of one of the numerous attractive wellness, spa and beauty offerings.
