The Perfect Drink for the most Extraordinary Party Tables in the World

By Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady

The tables are set. All 48 of the most incredible tabletops, each created by a different designer, are finally ready for the culminating banquet honoring Diffa’s tenth anniversary.

What is more breathtaking? The crystal, the flowers, the china, or the beautiful people who have come to dine. (did they really come to dine—or just to see and be seen?)

No matter—it was a floor and tabletop show that equaled a Broadway production.

Orchestrating the crowd to their tables, changing table settings and then serving hundreds of indulged people could be a director or party planner’s nightmare. The Dallas Market Center pulled it all off perfectly.

MAKING THE FIRST IMPRESSION

What cocktail do you serve for an extraordinary event? The solution was simple and simply delicious. Corzo cocktails as stylish as the setting.

CORZO® White Cosmopolitan

  • 2 parts CORZO®

  • 1 parts triple sec

  • ½ parts fresh lemon juice

  • 2 parts white cranberry juice

  • As martini:  Shake all ingredients with ice

  • Strain into martini glass

  • Garnish with orange slice

  • As cocktail:  Build all ingredients over ice

  • Garnish with orange slice

  • Color: Clear

  • Attributes:  Orange and tart

CORZO® Lemon Basil Cocktail

  • 2 parts CORZO®

  • 1 parts triple sec

  • ½ lemon

  • 3 basil leaves

  • ½ parts simple syrup

  • Muddle lemon, basil and simple syrup in a rocks glass

  • Add ice, tequila and triple sec

  • Top with Club Soda

  • Garnish with lemon wheel

  • Color:  Green and yellow

New York tabletop designer Marc Blackwell designed a fantasy Wine Library for the event.

I was lucky enough to be sitting with Marc Blackwell, designer of the Diffa table for Rosemount, one of the sponsors of the evening.  Each of the lucky guests at our table was given a bottle of Balmoural and a set of Marc’s charming drinking glasses.

DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS Brings DINING BY DESIGN To Dallas

DIFFA’S DINING BY DESIGN presented by ELLE DECOR and GE MONOGRAM and sponsored by Rosemount Estate Wines and Corzo Tequila brought together some of the most talented and celebrated individuals in the worlds of fashion, interior design, art, and architecture to create spectacular, over-the-top dining environments...

The multi-city tour, which in past years has raised more than $12 million for DIFFA, featured awe-inspiring dining installations by design luminaries such as David Rockwell/Rockwell Group for GE Monogram, Margaret Russell for ELLE DECOR, Marc Blackwell for Rosemount Estate, and noted Dallas designers including David Nelson, Shane Walker, Mary Ann Thompson-Frenk, Michelle Nussbaumer, John Phifer Marrs and George Sellers.

“It is truly gratifying to have these extraordinary designers contribute to such an important cause through this one-of-a-kind program of events,” said Margaret Russell, Editor in Chief of ELLE DECOR.  “We are proud to continue to support DINING BY DESIGN to help fund DIFFA’s preventative education and direct-care programs and assist the work they do within the AIDS community.”

Each designer/sponsor received a dining space within which the creative possibilities were endless; the only requirement was that each table accommodates at least ten dinner guests. Friday evening, guests had the opportunity to view the magnificent table creations while tasting Rosemount Estate wines and libations including cocktails by CORZO tequila.  Guests at the gala dinner on Saturday dined at the tables. The event was a truly unique experience for all who attend.  I will never again be able to use paper plates.
