Beverly Hilton’s Le Chateau

Edited by Valerie Summers

Opened in 1955 by distinguished hotelier Conrad Hilton, the Beverly Hilton has combined the excitement of Hollywood with the elegance of Beverly Hills for more than 50 years.  Located at the world famous intersection of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards, the 570 room hotel includes more than 60,000 square feet of upscale indoor and open-air event space all on the lobby level including the hotel’s famed International Ballroom.  Owned by entertainer Merv Griffen from 1987 to 2003, Beny Alagem and Oasis West Realty LLC purchased the hotel in late 2003.  They immediately embarked on an $80 million reinvention of the property, redefining and repositioning the hotel to a level of luxury synonymous with Beverly Hills.

One of the Beverly Hilton’s jewels is the award winning Le Chateau, the hotel’s elegant wine and chocolate boutique.  The design of Le Chateau evokes a classic European wine cellar, yet is strongly influenced by key elements of modern California architecture.  Guests enter though the expansive wall of glass into the luminous enclave where they discover a true sense of France in the West.  Well know designer, Gensler, has infused the rustic atmosphere with elegant and finely appointed details that complement an open floor plan and the picturesque views that serve as the backdrop for this award winning show room.  Le Chateau is a successful example of an experiential setting.  Here, classic Europe meets warm textures and golden hues with counterpoints of mahogany, detailed stonework complemented by the natural light.

There is no place to captivate the senses like Le Chateau according to George Serna, co-founder and sommelier.  He is devoted to delivering his clientele the finest in wine and chocolate and recently commented “I want to bring Beverly Hills both luxurious and worldly wines as well as the hidden Central California gems that are right now on the verge of discovery.  Le Chateau, because of its location and design is the perfect place for a new wine to make its debut.”  The wine cellar features more than 4, 00 bottles complemented by a tempting line of world famous Neuhaus chocolates including the late Princess Diana’s favorite, the Caprice.  Le Chateau patrons experience an intimate space, a jewel box rich in material and ambience conveying the complexity of fine wines and chocolate, an exquisite addition to the Beverly Hilton experience.
