Red Sea Jazz Festival Turns 17

Eilat is well known for its sunny beaches, sparkling blue waters, and exotic nightlife. Yet, here among what would make any tropical paradise envious, lies a rich cultural gem. In its 17th year of existence, the Red Sea Jazz Festival returns to Eilat once more in August. Hailed as a major jazz event in Israel, this festival features internationally acclaimed jazz bands and artists including The Charles Lloyd Quartet, The Bad Plus, and Russell Gunn Ethnomusicology from the United States, as well as Eric Truffaz from France and Tim Garland and The Electric Band from The United Kingdom.

From August 25th through the 28th, some of the greatest talents in jazz will perform their music against the backdrop of this beautiful combination of desert and sea. The Red Sea Jazz Festival is expected to draw more than 70,000 people from across the globe.

The Festival features more than 30 acts representing some of the biggest names in jazz, providing inspiration to new generations of musicians and fans alike. The excitement and pure joy become infectious, causing impromptu jazz sessions to break out across the city. Every night of the festival, Eilat is lulled to sleep by the sweet soothing sounds of jazz.

“The Red Sea Jazz Festival has a ‘jazz only’ policy. It strives to introduce to the public the broadest possible spectrum, from New Orleans jazz to the contemporary. The festival promotes American, European and Israeli groups. The festival is also active in the jazz education field in Israel, promoting original jazz compositions and youth jazz bands,” says Dan Gottfried, promoter of The Red Sea Jazz Festival.

Whether you are a jazz aficionado or just looking for an entertaining evening, the Red Sea Jazz Festival adds to the Eilat experience. For further information on the Red Sea Jazz Festival, visit http://www.ejn.it/promo/redsea.htm.
