Caravelle’s ‘Weekend Shopping in Saigon’ Package Highlights One of Asia’s
Hottest New Shopping Destinations
Edited by Madelyn Miller
A bargain “Weekend Shopping in Saigon’ package is on offer
this summer at the legendary Caravelle Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.
The two-night deal priced at US$262 for single occupancy or
US$272.00 for couples is available on Friday-Saturday or Saturday-Sunday nights
until September 30th 2005.
It includes buffet breakfast, limousine airport transfers
and a 60-minute Vietnamese massage. Prices are also subject to the usual 10 per
cent government tax and 5 per cent service charge.
The package represents a “bargain opportunity” both to
experience Ho Chi Minh’s fabulous shopping and The Caravelle, voted the city’s
Best Luxury Hotel in a recent poll, said General Manager Stephen O’Grady. The
Caravelle is located in the heart of the city’s most popular shopping and
restaurant street, Dong Khoi.
“It’s also a wonderful opportunity to discover Ho Chi
Minh’s fascinating attractions on a weekend getaway,” he said.
Tours and excursions organized by The Caravelle include a ½
day trip to the notorious Cu Chi Tunnels -- where the Vietcong hid during the
Vietnam War – along with half and full day city tours, and a day tour to the
Mekong Delta.
There are also four renowned golf courses on the outskirts of the city.
The Caravelle also offers Vietnamese Cooking Classes for
individuals and groups of up to 20 people. Included is a tour of Saigon’s famous
Ben Thanh Market with one of the hotel’s chefs to source ingredients, a hands-on
cooking class in the kitchen and a relaxing luncheon in the Asian Reflections
restaurant.

stores and have sprung up selling contemporary lacquer ware, celadon and
ceramics, linens, high quality silk clothes and a host of other desirable
locally made products and handicrafts. Just a few tree-lined streets away is
Ton That Thiep one of the city’s up and coming districts with many new boutiques
selling designer fashions and home wares all a very affordable prices.
For a break in between shopping, many delightful
restaurants and coffee houses now occupy restored old shop houses with pavement
seating for a view of the charming tree lined streets and their chaotic
activity.
Overlooking famous Lam Son Square and the city’s Opera
House, the 5-star Caravelle, was recently refurbished to a new level of
sophistication and timeless elegance in a US$2 million makeover.
The refurbishment at Ho Chi Minh City’s most prestigious
address includes room upgrades complete with broadband Internet and a new up
market shopping mall featuring prestigious designer outlets, a new entertainment
centre with state-of-the-art electronic gaming and upgraded Business Centre with
meeting facilities.
This year, the 335-room Caravelle was again voted ‘Best
Luxury Hotel’ in Ho Chi Minh City by leading lifestyle & leisure magazine, The
Guide, published by the Vietnam Economic Times. The hotel’s world-renowned
