Stop to Smell the Roses … And Maybe Ballroom Dance at the Butchart Gardens This Summer

Canada’s Most Visited Private Attraction Includes Musical Entertainment to Complement Illuminated Summer Evening Strolls Through the Gardens

Canada’s Butchart Gardens has created an eclectic play list of lively musical entertainment to accompany guests on evening visits this summer.  The musical entertainment, from Big Band to West Coast Celtic and International Boogie-Woogie and Jazz Piano, along with night-time illuminations, creates an emotional journey throughout The Gardens that will transport visitors to another time and place.

“We continue to develop our summer entertainment program each year at The Butchart Gardens to appeal to both our local and international visitors,” said Warren Carrie, Director of Arts and Entertainment for The Butchart Gardens.  “Our summer days are long, lasting until 10 o’clock at night, and allow The Gardens to extend our hours to provide for additional entertainment throughout the evening.  Come in late afternoon to enjoy the amazing gardens in the sun light and stay through the night for a magical, musical experience.”

The Butchart Gardens has booked acts from around North America and the world to suit the varied taste of its visitors.  Artists like Michael Kaeshammer, The Bills, Spanish Passion, Kitangus, String Connection Orchestra, Louise Rose and Los Gringos Locos are just some of the summertime entertainment that visitors will enjoy.

The Gardens are also lit each evening with their “Summer Illuminations” – thousands of lights throughout the grounds to accent the manicured landscapes. Each Saturday starting at dusk, July 2 to September 3, the 55-acre garden delights visitors with North America’s largest and most unique purely pyrotechnic fireworks display.  A full entertainment schedule of nightly summer programs is available at: http://www.butchartgardens.com/entertain/.

The Butchart Gardens was created in 1904 by Jennie Butchart out of her husband’s worked-out limestone quarry site and now welcomes more than 1.3 million guests from around the world each year. The year 2004 marked the 55-acre Gardens’ very special “100 Years In Bloom.” 2005 ushers in a new century with more than 250,000 bulbs blooming, Saturday night fireworks and live musical entertainment throughout the summer, flaming red and russet Japanese maples turning in fall, and the highly anticipated winter wonderland spanning the holidays.

The Gardens were recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, and designated a National Historic Site of Canada by the country’s Minister of the Environment.
