The beat goes on!

Make way for the 26th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal!

If you’re on your way to Montreal this summer, don’t miss the chance to join around 2 million other music lovers at the 26th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, happening this summer from June 30 to July 10 every day from noon until midnight. As in the past, there’ll be some 2000 musicians rolling into town from all corners of the planet, bringing the sounds of jazz and its diverse musical cousins along for the ride. {place Foule Jour Victor Diaz picture here}

The esplanade surrounding the Place des Arts will reverberate with fantastic sounds as friends, families, and passers-by all revel in the hundreds of outdoor shows at the festival. Thousands of musicians will be arriving from 20 countries around the world for about 500 concerts – 350 of them free of charge and divided among 30 different series – to take place on 10 outdoor stages.

This year’s festival includes the likes of Pat Metheny, Mark Knopfler, Madeleine Peyroux, Cesaria Evora , Charlie Haden, Paul Anka, John Mayall and Omara Portuondo just to mention a few. There will also be hundreds of exterior mini-performances by wandering Dixie Land bands, drum sections and other street performers that guarantee plenty of musical diversity. As well as the many music venues, there will be films, an art gallery, and the opportunity to enjoy a fine four-course meal aboard the Cavalier-Maxim ship featuring the Montreal Jazz Club.

If you possess musical talents yourself, or wish you did, then you are in luck! One of the many novelties scheduled this year will be taking place in the latter days of the Festival. From July 7 to 10 the new Montreal Musicians and Musical Instrument Show (MMMIS) will be set up in the complex Desjardins, offering a number of activities where beginning musicians and seasoned veterans alike will be given the opportunity to try out various musical instruments and even attend master classes hosted by some of the biggest names appearing at this year’s Festival.
