STAR POWER COMING TO CALIFORNIA’S NAPA VALLEY

Festival del Sole Brings Together the World’s Finest Food, Wine, and Musicians for an Unparalleled Cultural Experience, July 16 – 23, 2006

The Del Sole Foundation for the Arts and Humanities announces the first annual Festival del Sole in Napa Valley, California, July 16-23, 2006 — an astonishing gathering of internationally celebrated talent.

Festival del Sole combines concerts performed by the world’s most esteemed classical musicians, exhibitions of leading visual artists, and exclusive receptions, lunches and dinners showcasing the very best in food and wine.

Musical performances will take place at multiple venues including the Lincoln Theater, the Napa Valley Opera House, and several unique locations such as vineyards and outdoor amphitheatres.  Inaugural year artists include such notables as Renée Fleming, Joshua Bell, Alan Gilbert, Nina Kotova, Anne Sofie von Otter, Piotr Anderszewski, Stéphane Denève, Samuel Ramey, Frederica von Stade, Nikolaj Znaider, Carlo Ponti Jr., Sarah Chang, Christopher Taylor, and the Emerson String Quartet.  The internationally renowned Russian National Orchestra is the founding orchestra of Festival del Sole and will be in residence the entire week.

Among the food and wine offerings is an opening night dinner at the stunning Rutherford estate of Craig and Kathryn Hall featuring the cuisine of star chef Ming Tsai; a luncheon at Thomas Keller’s French Laundry restaurant hosted by Peter Paul and Grove Street Winery; a Russian Imperial dinner at Bouchaine Vineyards hosted by Tatiana and Gerret Copeland; a spectacular dinner at Beringer Vineyards prepared by Cat Cora, the first and only female Iron Chef, and a surprise chef from Tuscany, accompanied by fine wines from Beringer Vineyards and Castello di Gabbiano; and a  luncheon with special guest Renée Fleming at Maria Manetti Farrow’s beautiful Oakville estate, Villa Mille Rose. Other highlights include an array of special performances, luncheons, receptions and dinners at Far Niente, Quintessa, Gargiulo Vineyards, Darioush Winery, the White Barn, Palmaz Vineyards, The Napa Valley Reserve, Robert Mondavi Winery and Domaine Chandon, among others.

The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone is hosting interactive events such as a cooking class and lunch with Cat Cora and Stephen Durfee, which will also include Tuscan chef Silvia Baracchi.  The walk-around lunch will feature the wines of sponsors Beringer Vineyards and Castello di Gabbiano.

Michael Chiarello will also host a cooking class and lunch.  Thomas Keller will host an interactive conversation with guests.  Michel Richard, and numerous “surprise” chefs, will tantalize the palates of guests at each culinary event.

COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts will open its doors for special Festival del Sole events featuring culinary stars Joyce Goldstein, Barbara Kafka, Dr. Haven Logan, Michele Richard, Ming Tsai, Floyd Zaiger, and COPIA’s own Linda Carucci and Eric Chandler.

The Napa Valley Museum will showcase paintings by world-renowned artist, Ana Corberó, and is also the host venue for a gala reception opening the Festival on July 16, 2006.

Some of Napa Valley’s most treasured resort properties are Festival partners, including Auberge du Soleil, Calistoga Ranch, The Carneros Inn, The Meritage Resort at Napa and Silverado Resort.

“We are extremely excited about creating unique, multi-sensory events that unite the world’s best and most adventurous music with the visual, culinary and viticultural arts.  We couldn’t have found a more suitable location than Napa Valley for the expansion of our concept already thriving in Tuscany,” said Barrett Wissman, Founder and General Director of the Del Sole Foundation and Chairman of IMG Artists.

The Festival is the sister event to the highly regarded Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona, Italy.  As producers of both, the Del Sole Foundation will extend the successful concept developed for the Tuscan Sun Festival to Festival del Sole.

Festival del Sole’s co-Founder and Director, Richard Walker said, “With the launch of Festival del Sole, the Napa Valley—already known for its fabled wines and cuisine—joins the ranks of the world’s leading cultural destinations as well.  The spectacular roster of artists appearing on stages across Napa Valley in July will quickly establish Festival del Sole at the forefront of international summer festivals.”

Concert and event tickets are available by calling 707.944.1300.
