See the best (or perhaps the worst) of the Clown Show for adults

Things that were banned or got them fired or refused payment

Edited by Madelyn Miller, the Travellady

What the heck is going on at Stone Street!   Stone Street Theatre is proud to continue it's Stone Street Presents series with Bini & The Bonk Do Dallas on Friday and comedian and musician, Dave Little on Saturday.

In case you missed it the first time at The Wine Therapist, Dallas clowns Stringbini and Bonkers will once again present: "The Clown Show We Shouldn't  Do!" - a compendium of routines and stunts which, over the years, have gotten  them fired, banned and refused payment in various venues.  Performance is at 8:00 on Friday, June 23.

This is an ADULT venue: please do NOT bring the kids!!!

Bini: Stringbini the Clown - AKA Jimmy Perini has been acting and clowning in Dallas for just over 20 years - appearing on stage and in TV commercials. He  is a graduate of the famed Ringling Bros Clown College, having earned his  tuition as a flight attendant and pool hall hustler. His prized possession is a vintage Enfield motorcycle which he is trying to sell in order to raise cash to  pay for injuries sustained while riding it. He no longer drinks and drives.

Bonk: Bonkers the Clown - AKA John Rainone has been acting and clowning in Dallas for almost 30 years. He was forced into clowning upon discovering that a  BFA in Theater Arts from SMU is pretty much the definition of "useless." His  fondest (only) film role is as the clown that Michael Richards punches out in  the movie "Problem Child." John always keeps alcohol handy but only for those  times when he sees snakes, which he also keeps handy.

Dave Little started his career in the early 80's running lights for the legendary musical comedy group, Bowley and Wilson, eventually working his way into a featured performer slot singing his original songs. He also started doing standup at the now defunct Comedy Corner and Dallas Improv, branching out into constant roadwork across the country from 1986-1993. Family and babies curbed his travelling and he started concentrating on voice work and acting with Kim Dawson Talent, improvisation with Lone Star Comedy, Middle Management  and Section8 with a few stints on local radio morning shows.

These days, Dave performs stand-up and his one man show at the Addison Improv, and other live entertainment venues in and around Dallas. He just recorded a collection of songs that are not quite funny yet not quite serious with noted musician/producer Salim Nourallah and a gaggle of excellent local musicians. including Chris Holt, Carter Albrecht, Danny Balis, Ward Williams, Trey Carmichael, and Steve Luthye.  Check out Dave website at www.lovedavelittle.com.

Tickets for each performance are $15.00 and reservations are recommended by calling the theatre reservation line at (469)619-2609.

OTHER UNIQUE THINGS TO DO IN DALLAS

Seemingly larger than life, Dallas for many people personifies all things Texas. From flashy architecture to oversize automobiles this is a city living large.

The best description of Dallas I have ever seen comes from foodwriter and author Poppy Z. Brite in her book PRIME. She describes the nighttime view of Dallas as seen from the cocktail lounge atop the glittering orb of Reunion Tower as if, “a very rich woman with very gaudy taste had upended her jewelry box onto a huge piece of dark blue satin.”

Madelyn’s favorite Hole in the Wall Hamburger places
1. Lee Harvey’s . Bad neighborhood, good hamburgers. Half pound burger is just $5.50 including fries
2. The Loon. Across from Uptown, this dark place was recommended by a restaurant owner. Everyone I take there loves it and returns with others. And so on.
3. Stoneleigh P. Warning: They have this thing about not serving Ketchup.  Bring your own or settle for BBQ sauce or mustard. Loud jukebox music and free magazines to read. Maybe it is a good place to go alone since the music is so loud it is a little hard to talk, But the free magazines are always up to date. (not that kind of date)

MADELYN’S FAVORITE UPSCALE HAMBURGER PLACES
4. Hattie’s in the Bishop’s Art District. The ground round burger comes with Gouda cheese and sweet potato fries.

5. Cretia’s. Not really a hole in the wall, this very charming tea house has a monster size 12 oz. hamburger stuffed with garlic and goat cheese comes with a side salad or fries. Worth every penny of the ten dollar price.
4438 McKinney. 214-252-9910
6. Hector’s. Who would go to a Latino fusion restaurant and order a hamburger? I did once and then loved it so much I went back with friends again and again. Be sure to order the sweet potato fries—no matter what else you have.
