Vinotherapie: Enjoying Wine a Different Way

Edited by Jennifer L. Price

Thinking of Bordeaux automatically conjures up images of vineyards lined with grapes, cellars full of large wooden barrels, and a deep-colored wine with a flavor to match.  Now imagine staying amongst those vineyards in a luxury hotel that holds an exclusive, where you are not only drinking that famous drink, the wine is being used in your spa treatments.

Welcome to the Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa, next to the Sources de Caudalie hotel and restaurant in beautiful Bordeaux.

Vinotherapie takes naturally warm mineral spring water from 540 metres underground and combines it with vine and grape extracts, which have a high concentration of polyphenois, useful in helping fight aging.  The combination is also known for strengthening blood vessels and enhancing micro-circulation.

Treatment options include a red wine bath, a barrel bath, a Merlot wrap, a four-handed massage and much more.  They were all created by Professor Vercauteren and his team at the Bordeaux Faculty of Pharmacy and will leave you and your skin feeling grand.

The hotel itself offers five different atmospheres ranging from “Le Comptoir des Indes”, the atmosphere that reveals the links between Bordeaux, England and Asia to the grand suite, “L’ile aux Oiseaux”, a cabin built on stilts.

So if you find yourself in France, take a break from your wine-tasting to enjoy it in a different way
