Holiday Home Exchange

Edited by Sarah Wilman

The spark for Hollywood's 'The Holiday', was ignited when a writer discovered vacation house swapping. A new, low cost way of travelling the world, it provides exchangers with the opportunity to become a local, with inside information on the best places to eat, shop and have fun. The concept is simple. "You stay in my place while I stay in yours".

Save Your Money and Your Sanity

Exchangers have found that other than the cost of getting there, a home exchange vacation to almost anywhere in the world doesn't cost much more than staying in your own home. There is a kitchen to save you from the expense of going out for meals (although you shouldn't let it stop you) and ingredients can be bought and sampled at local markets. If you are travelling with kids, you can arrange for everyone to have their own room and their own space!

Short and Sweet

The exchange can also be used for short breaks. A growing trend is to organise weekend getaways, visit kids in college, or attend weddings and family reunions.

When considering home exchange most people question how wise it is to have a 'stranger' stay in their home. However, those visiting are just as concerned with how others will keep up their home. Information about the house, neighborhood and people, including photos, will also be provided to help make decisions easier.
