Pooches in the Park for Easter
Dallas Symphony Orchestra to give free
concert
Edited by Madelyn Miller
If you and your family are looking for something fun to
do this Easter, attend the annual rite of spring, the 19th annual “Easter in
The Park” at Lee Park, on Turtle Creek Boulevard, between Lemmon Avenue and
North Hall Street. The event will be held on Easter Sunday, April 11, from
1 to 5 p.m. The event is such a big draw for the entire community that
8,000 to 12,000 people attend each year. Blankets, picnic baskets, music,
family, children and dogs are in order at this day of fun in the sun.
“Easter in The Park” benefits Turtle Creek Association, which has a primary
focus of enhancing, preserving and protecting the Turtle Creek corridor.
The festivities begin with the hilarious “Pooch
Parade,” a parade and costume contest with more than 150 dogs vying for
special awards and prizes. The entry fee for all dogs is $10.00. The award
winners for “Small Dog,” “Large Dog,” “Owner/Pet Look-Alike” and “Best
Dressed” get special prizes coveted each year. Registration for the “Pooch
Parade” begins at 11 a.m. at the Turtle Creek Association tent on Turtle
Creek Boulevard, between North Hall and Lemmon Avenue. The SPCA of Dallas
will also bring more than 20 dogs that will be up for adoption and these
dogs will lead the parade at 12:45 p.m., followed by the official “Pooch
Parade” at 1 p.m.
Jan Strimple will serve as Grand Marshal of the “Pooch
Parade.” The Master of Ceremonies will be Mattie Roberts, host of the
television program, “Mornings with Mattie” on TXCN-TV and television
celebrity Chris Harrison, host of “The Bachelorette.”
Celebrity Judges of the “Pooch Parade” to date include
Rob Brinkley, Home design editor, PaperCity Magazine; Restaurateur Monica
Greene; Realtor Joseph Gullotto; Tracy Anchor Hayes, editor of

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will perform for an hour
with a selection of popular songs to fit everyone’s tastes at 3:00 to 4:00
p.m. Food and beverages will be sold at concession booths.

significant source of revenue for the various association projects.

Seemingly larger than life, Dallas for many people
personifies all things Texas. From flashy architecture to oversize
automobiles this is a city living large.
