Ski Apache Joins Taos by Extending Their Season

Best snow in years allows both areas to remain open an extra week

In light of favorable weather conditions, two New Mexico ski resorts, Taos Ski Valley and Ski Apache, have decided to extend its winter season by an extra week.  Officials with Ski Apache announced that the area will remain open through April 3rd rather than closing on March 27th as previously planned.  Similarly, Taos Ski Valley officials announced the area's decision to stay open through April 10th thanks to excellent conditions and continuing snowfall.  Remaining open for an extra week is a first for Taos, and it will offer $30 lift ticket for its final week of operation, April 4-10.

Night time temperatures have been cold throughout the state preserving the bountiful coverage and setting up outstanding spring skiing at all of New Mexico's winter resorts. "We really have not had spring conditions yet," said Ski Apache General Manager Scott Goeller. "It has remained cold on the mountain and the snow is holding up very well."

So far this season, Ski Apache has received over 170 inches of total snowfall, while over 220 inches of snow have fallen on Taos Ski Valley.  As of late March, the base at Ski Apache is reported as 90 to 96 inches of settled snow midway up the mountain, while Taos is reporting a base of 92 to 106 inches.  Both areas are 100% open for skiers of all skill levels.
