The Rock and the Rabbi
Dallas Summer Musicals’ Broadway Contemporary Series Presents North Texas
Premiere of National Tour March 7-12, 2006, at The Majestic Theatre
Storytelling and acoustic music set the stage for a brand
new musical based on the life of Peter the fisherman and Jesus of Nazareth in
THE ROCK & THE RABBI. This contemporary treatment of the Biblical story is
intimate and emotional while being funny and thrilling. Audiences of all ages
will enjoy THE ROCK & THE RABBI as new life is brought to the classic tale of
friendship and betrayal, forgiveness and reconciliation. THE ROCK & THE RABBI
is presented by Dallas Summer Musicals’ Broadway Contemporary Series, making its
North Texas Premiere March 7-12, 2006, at The Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm Street
in Dallas.

The heart of this theatrical production is the
storytelling. The reality of the historical account is presented though the
power of the spoken word and the music that it inspires. The Storyteller
recounts his adventures with The Rabbi; from fishing on the Sea of Galilee, to
the agony of the Cross, to the Miracle of the ages. The music features acoustic
guitars, Irish and African drums, accordion and bagpipes and is some of the most
powerful and memorable in theatre today.
“What do you say about a show featuring a dozen gifted and
funny musicians, an upbeat and joyful storyteller, and the most excellent story
ever told? SEE IT!,” says George Flores, Musical Director, WWDJ 970AM, New York
City; and “I was amazed by THE ROCK & THE RABBI - the simplicity, the story and
the TRUTH presented. I left wishing I had brought friends and family members to
the performance. OUTSTANDING!,” says Chris Kaiser, Northeast Oklahoma Fellowship
of Christian Athletes.
The script was written by Gary Richardson, and the music
and lyrics by Danny Hamilton. THE ROCK & THE RABBI debuted at Clearwater,
Florida’s Ruth Eckerd Hall in 1998. Then with outpouring support from the
community, in November 2002 THE ROCK & THE RABBI made the Plaza Theatre in
Orlando, Florida home for nearly three years. Now, from one of the producers of
the 6-time Tony® Award-winning Broadway musical THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE and the
3-time 2005 Tony® Award-winner including Best Musical - Monty Python’s SPAMALOT,
Larry Payton, founder of Destiny Productions along with his wife Kay, is making
it possible for people all over the world to see and be impacted by this
incredible show.
Performances of THE ROCK & THE RABBI will take place at The
Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm Street in Dallas, with opening night Tuesday, March 7
at 8 p.m. Additional evening performances continue Wed.-Sun. at 8 p.m., with
