HE’S COMING BACK!
The Phantom of the Opera
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s
International Award-Winning Musical
Directed by Harold Prince
Returns to the Music Hall at Fair Park
4 Weeks Only! March 22-April 16, 2006
The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Harold Prince, will
return to the Music Hall at Fair Park for a four-week engagement beginning
Wednesday, March 22 through Sunday, April 16, 2006 With worldwide box office
sales of over $3 billion, The Phantom of the Opera is the most successful
entertainment venture of the twentieth century, surpassing such blockbuster
films as Titanic, E.T., and Star Wars.
The winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, it
celebrated its seventeenth anniversary on Broadway on January 26, 2005 and is
the longest-running show currently on Broadway having played over 7,000
performances. Worldwide, The Phantom of the Opera consistently plays to larger
audiences and in longer engagements than any other musical in history. On
January 9, 2006, The Phantom of the Opera became the longest-running show in
Broadway history surpassing Cats’ record-holding run of 7,485 performances.
Based on the classic novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra by
Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a masked figure who
lurks beneath the catacombs of the Paris Opera House, exercising a reign of
terror over all who inhabit it. He falls madly in love with an innocent young
soprano, Christine, and devotes himself to creating a new star by nurturing her
extraordinary talents and by employing all of the devious methods at his
command.
The Phantom of the Opera had its world premiere on October
9, 1986 at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London, winning every major British theatre
award including the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards. The New York
production opened on January 26, 1988 with a then-record advance of $18
million. The musical went on to sweep the 1988 Tony Awards, winning seven,
including Best Musical.
The Phantom of the Opera also won seven Drama Desk Awards
and three Outer Critics Circle Awards. The original London cast recording was
the first in British musical history to enter the charts at number one. It has
since gone both gold and platinum in Britain and the United States, selling over
25 million copies.
The Phantom of the Opera will play Wednesday, March 22
through Sunday, April 16, 2006. Performances are Tuesday through Sunday evenings
at 8 p.m. with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. There will be an
additional matinee on Thursday, March 23 at 2 p.m.
Single tickets, priced from $18-$71, are on sale now at The
Box Office, 542 Preston Royal Shopping Center, or any Ticketmaster outlet.

OTHER THINGS TO DO IN DALLAS
Seemingly larger than life, Dallas for many people
personifies all things Texas. From flashy architecture to oversize automobiles
this is a city living large.
The best description of Dallas I have ever seen comes from
foodwriter and author Poppy Z. Brite in her book PRIME. She describes the
nighttime view of Dallas as seen from the cocktail lounge atop the glittering
orb of Reunion Tower as if, “a very rich woman with very gaudy taste had upended
her jewelry box onto a huge piece of dark blue satin.”

Madelyn’s favorite Hole in the Wall Hamburger places
1. Lee Harvey’s . Bad neighborhood, good hamburgers. Half pound burger is
just $5.50 including fries
2. The Loon. Across from Uptown, this dark place was
recommended by a restaurant owner. Everyone I take there loves it and returns
with others. And so on.
3. Stoneleigh P. Warning: They have this thing about not
serving Ketchup. Bring your own or settle for BBQ sauce or mustard. Loud
jukebox music and free magazines to read. Maybe it is a good place to go alone
since the music is so loud it is a little hard to talk, But the free magazines
are always up to date. (not that kind of date)
MADELYN’S FAVORITE UPSCALE HAMBURGER PLACES
4. Hattie’s in the Bishop’s Art District. The ground round burger comes with
Gouda cheese and sweet potato fries.

5. Cretia’s. Not really a hole in the wall, this very
charming tea house has a monster size 12 oz. hamburger stuffed with garlic and
goat cheese comes with a side salad or fries. Worth every penny of the ten
dollar price.

6. Hector’s. Who would go to a Latino fusion restaurant and
order a hamburger? I did once and then loved it so much I went back with friends
again and again. Be sure to order the sweet potato fries—no matter what else you
have.
