20th Annual Carson City Rendezvous

Chris LeDoux and Historic Western Lifestyle

The capital city's biggest weekend, the 20th annual Carson City Rendezvous, just got bigger with country/western star Chris LeDoux kicking off the festivities in concert at the Pony Express Pavilion, Friday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m.

LeDoux's appearance also marks the opening of the 2003 Capital City Summer Music Series, with late July and August performances by noted stars appearing at the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park.

The Rendezvous, long considered the area's most popular summer event and voted one of the Top 100 events in the country, features displays of authentic Mountain Man encampments, re-enactments of Civil War skirmishes, and a Native American village with traditional dance exhibitions.

The Mountain Man encampment is the nerve center for historic storytelling and songs of early Nevada. Their outdoors life will also include authentic, how-to demonstrations: fire starting with flint and steel, muzzle loading a rifle or pistol, and the requisite tomahawk and knife throwing contests.

Attendees can also take a camel ride, watch the gunfighter's show and view Pony Express demonstrations of horseback riders in full gallop exchanging mailbags to meet the postal deadlines of the Old West. There will also be a Dutch Oven Cook-off, Food Court and an Arts and Crafts Faire. A Traders Row will feature period clothing, beads, hats, powder horns and leather products for purchase.

Mills Park is located on Highway 50 East, a half mile off Highway 395, the main street through Carson City. Most events are free to the public. For a complete schedule of activities and additional information visit www.carsoncityrendezvous.com.

LeDoux, who once made his living as a rodeo cowboy, later became known for his Western-themed songs and rowdy concerts. He started playing music while he competed in rodeos, writing about his life on the circuit. His songs captured "the romance, the freedom, the dirt and the hurt of rodeo" and drew fans that demanded tapes of his songs. He has recorded 22 albums and sold nearly six million records.

Tickets for the Chris LaDoux Concert range from $18-30. For more information on the June 13 concert or the complete Capital City Summer Series, call 775-882-8900 x125 or visit online at: www.carsoncitymusic.com.
