Tamale Molly

Gourmet Tamales - With a Twist

Based in a small kitchen in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Tamale Molly makes a variety of hand-tied, gourmet vegetarian tamales using all natural ingredients. A whole new twist on the traditional tamale, the company conjures up more than ten flavor-filled offerings including Pine Nut, Chard and Shallots; Vegan Red Chili with Peppers and Olives; and Mexican Chocolate tamales.

Tamale Molly was founded in February, 2001, by Erin Wood, a former stockbroker trainer turned entrepreneur and advocate for the hungry. “As a child, I learned to make traditional tamales from my mother,” says Wood. “As an adult, I began blending in all sorts of ingredients and testing out the tamales on friends and catering customers.”

Wood considered opening her own tamale company for more than a decade and was also determined to find a way to create jobs and fight hunger in her present hometown of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Achieving both conquests with the creation of Tamale Molly, Wood donates all of the company’s profits to local food banks.

With a team of eight staffers, Tamale Molly makes 4,500 tamales a day, each one artfully hand-tied in a natural corn husk. All of the tamales are made with whole corn kernels to ensure great taste and texture. Vegetarian flavors are made with sweet cream butter, while vegan flavors are made with extra virgin olive oil.  Each hand-selected ingredient is gently mixed into a combination of traditional and non-traditional tamale fillings, so the flavor of fresh ingredients fragrantly permeates the entire tamale.

While most tamales are prepared, cooked, and then frozen to be cooked again, Tamale Molly’s tasteful treats are hand-tied and then fresh frozen, preventing the typical dry taste found in other frozen tamales.  Gourmands simply need to steam the tamales and serve.

Tamale Molly’s gourmet offerings include the following flavors:
        Pine Nut with Jack Cheese
        Cilantro and Green Chili
        Mushroom and Jack Cheese
Squash with Tomato and Fresh Oregano
Blue Corn and Mixed Fresh Herbs
New Mexico Goat Cheese and Fresh Mint
Vegan Red Chili with Peppers and Olives
        Vegan Chard and Shallots
Vegan Black Bean with Chipotle Chile

To make the dining experience sweet and complete, Wood also created two popular dessert tamales, Honey Pecan and Mexican Chocolate.

Tamale Molly’s tasteful treats can be found in the freezer at many Whole Foods Stores and other fine food stores throughout the Southwest, and can also be shipped directly to the consumer.
